Hello I'm a "greenlighter" and I'm about to turn 18 and I have a lot of back probs. I have a bulging and torn L5-S1 and DDD of my L3 threw S1 and my doc won't percribe me any pain meds even tho I tell him the truth about my pain always being a 6 or above can any one relate

Kinda. I'm also 18, and had a helluva time getting prescribed narcotics last year when I suffered a whiplash type injury to my neck. Granted, I was still going to the pediatrician, but they were scared to prescribe me too much Flexeril, let alone narcotics. Finally I had to go to the emergency room the pain was so bad, and got percocet.

I no longer see the pediatrician, and my new doc has no issue prescribing me meds that actually work. Good luck.

What sort of doctors have you seen? Have they recommended surgery or physical therapy? Do you have your medical records, MRI's, x-rays, etc? Your primary physician may want to refer you to a specialist who can treat your injuries rather than prescribe narcotic pain medicine.

i have had back problems most of my life. i have type 1 neurofibromatosis. NF1 for short. i have been through all the problems with pain and getting meds for it. the biggest problem you will have is your age. younger people are known for abusing them. but bigger than that is if you start on narcotic pain meds at 18 by the time your 30 you will have a tolarence like mine. i take 12 oxy 80s and 12 oxy 30s ir. if you can find a way to help the pain without narcotics it would most likly be for the best. if nothing else works than take them. either way i would suggest getting a different doctor

Hey thanks for the feedback I have had X-rays and MRI's of my thoraric and lumbar spine with a bulging and torn L5-S1 and bad DDD of all of my lumbar and I'm getting upper back MRI's this week. I do have a neurosurgeon who is my primary on my back and am seeing a pain specialist this week, I also go to pt 3 times a week but have had to cut back because of flare ups I live in Rhoad Island so it's been cold and snowey.

I also have a TENS unit at my house that I use at-least once a day and I have been doing so for about 6 month but dealing with the flare ups sometimes limit the things I do like missing two midyears this year from lack of sleep and sleeping threw them.
