Name a good career. Do they exist? Are they a myth?

I'm at a stage in my life right now where I might as well to go to college or university. There is no work out there and I hate my old profession (Engineering). It's all men and they're all shit and I don't like working with my hands and everyone was a walking cliche.

When I try and think of good jobs, my mind goes blank. I literally can't think of one. This is because I generally don't like work and the actual good jobs (porn star etc) are unattainable and fanciful (I spent ages 4-8 wanting to be a teenage turtle - to cut a long story short I'm 23 and it didn't work out).

Surely there must be good jobs out there? With decent people? Where do they all end up? Which work is interesting yet attainable? Who has a good career? Name them please
 
Personally, I'd love to be a marine biologist studying great white shark behaviour... There is something about them, they are hands down my favourite animal. I am beyond fasinated by them.

Shame its one of those dream jobs that I will just never end up pursuing...
 
I enjoy my line of work. But you need tobe comfterable with free fall parachuting and killing people with an edged weapon to get very far.

What are your hobbies and interests? List those, and that could get the ball rolling.

Sorry that I didn't reply to this, completely forgot I made the post.

My main hobby is music but it is something that I would always pursue secondly to a career.

Things that I am interested in and feel I could pursue in a professional manner are a strong belief in equality and rights, an interest in science, the mind and the way it works, helping people, (simple) neurology.

I've been thinking about psychology, science, maybe social work at college but I just know so little about it all.

Does anybody know what type of career or more specific courses might interest me from what I've said? I understand that I'm not near enough interested in neurology to undertake a degree and I also find complex maths too complicated to fathom.

However I do like the idea of helping people, maybe from a scientific angle.

Your best be may be one of these two paths:
1. Doctorate in clinical psych (PsyD), w/ a specialization in neurological approaches or
2. Academic, research track in psychology/cognitive neuroscience with a specialization in psychopathology.

This really depends on how you would like to balance helping people directly versus producing knowledge for the task.

I'm also not sure how to reconcile such interest in neurology with hesitations about pursuing it seriously. . .
 
I've actually enjoyed a lot of bar work.... i would gladly get up every day to run my own coffeeshop :)
 
How about Human resources or Equal Opportunity work? You have lots of different options about what type of work (corporations, government, charity work,) or adcovacy? (i have no idea how to spell that)
 
Without knowing you or anything about you, this is too subjective a question. University departments are a good source of knowledge about varied careers that aren't run of the mill or don't immediately spring to mind. Or find someone in the field you're interested in and ask them for ideas. Those outside the field are unlikely to know about job opportunities/angles within it.
 
I read your very first post describing your situation, maybe just reading that will hurt me right now idk, but with a bachelors degree in criminal and justice, and maybe some law enforcement or military experience, a highschool degree, and well some determination, becoming a U.S. Marshal is very beneficial, but like I said, you gotta realy want it. Idk just saw your post and that popped in my head, but look into it and say yes or no I guess.

based on that alone, you'd love what i do: industrial adviser at a trade union. got into it by being the delegate at my last job. very rewarding work.
 
this may sound naive and idealistic but the difference between people who do <insert whatever> and the people who do not <insert same> is those that do, actually did something about it.
