Hi everyone. So today I was prescribed 50mg Naltrexone. I have been using heroin for the past 3 years. Yesterday my friend gave me an 8mg suboxone because i was sick as a dog. Today i saw my doctor in hopes of being able to get my own suboxone script, but instead he gave me Naltrexone. In my opinion, the Naltrexone sounds like a way better drug to help kick dope because there is no way to abuse it, and it also blocks opiates. My doctor told me to start off just taking half a pill for the next week to make sure i dont have an allergic reaction. One of my questions is how long do i need to wait, before i start taking the Naltrexone, especially since i just took a full strip of suboxone about 24 hours ago?
Also, i have done a little research and found a bunch of side effects that do not sound very pleasant. Has anyone experienced any side effects at all and if so please explain them. Thankyou for your time, any help is much appreciated.

Hi, I was prescribed naltrexone a few months back for my alcohol cravings. I cannot find where I put the pharmacy leaflet but I remember the doctor grilling me about if I have been using opiates. She said it can make you sick with precipitated withdrawals unless you wait at least a week after last dose of opiates. Now I found this link that states if using bupe or methadone the wait time can be up to two weeks. I'm assuming that's a safety precaution for a person who has been using them steadily and it's better to err on the side of caution.

This is a long read but breaks it down for you: http://www.drugs.com/pro/naltrexone.html
I started with half a 50 mg pill too, and it made me nauseated after a couple hours. The next day I made sure I had food in my stomach when I took it. I felt like I needed to vomit and it lingered all day. I believe this may have happened because of my hepatitis c and poor liver function, making me a bad candidate for this drug.

You can't avoid going through withdrawals. No matter how poorly you feel, don't take any more opiates at all. You're going to have to tough it out. Give it a try and see how it works for you. It's no magic bullet but can help you get your life back. Maybe someone with better experience with this drug will chime in with more advice. Wish you luck and welcome to Bluelight! :)
