Opioids Naltrexone Approved in US Today for Opioid Addiction

thats actually nothing new. naltrexone has been used for addiction for quite some time now. In fact a member just created a thread a short while ago describing his experience with his doctor using naltrexone in combination with nalaxone for a rapid detox.
 
Naltrexone isn't new at all just this specific indication is. Naltrexone has been used orally, intravenously and in an implantable chip for years.

I suppose we can have have a thread to discuss naltrexone as a treatment for opioid addiction, but I'll probably change the title because its misleading.

Well many think its an awful treatment because it blocks natural endorphins so things that are usually enjoyable or produce a natural 'high' such as running/strenuous exercise do not or the effect is greatly reduced.

Depression also commonly results. It is beneficial due to the length of time it blocks other opioids from being able to work normally so it can help people but its more of a chemically forced abstinence then helping people change their lives to get clean so it certainly has severe limitations.

They are both opioid antagonists but naltrexone has a much longer duration/half-life.
 
Has anyone ever actually been on it before here? I've been considering trying it, just to feel "safe" for a few more months. To me the worst part of abstaining from opiates is the knowledge that I *could* get high if I wanted to. So, if I eliminated the choice, my mind would be forced to wander to other things.

I'd actually take a little added dysphoria over the constant fear that I might slip up.

In practice, have people that have tried it felt a noticeable disphoria that could be separated from normal PAWS?

the OP in that thread took naltrexone to stay off opiates.....you could read his thread and try PM'ing him.
 
This would be highly beneficial to me, Im on my second month of PAWS and still get urges to return to use. Something that works in the same was as the drunk pill does would do wonders for me at this point.

Well in that case why not take subutex or suboxone?
