I get a certain number of 2mg IR Alprazolam per week from my psychiatrist.... I have had him write me prescriptions for both generic and non-generic versions of the 2mg.
So right now I have a mixture of the round 2MG Mylan generic "pies" and the more notorious name brand 2mg 'bars' that say XANAX on them and are made by Pharmacia/Upjohn.
Now I know there is a lot of debate on this.... other than the bars looking cooler and having that name-brand appeal that humans tend to be willing to pay extra for (such as clothing, OTC drugs, cars etc), my doctor swears that there is absolutely no difference in them, since they contain the exact same amount of Alprazolam, and that the difference in inactive ingredients/fillers do not have any effect upon me.
Now, he could care less which one I am getting, since it's my parents paying. It's not a huge deal, but they obviously prefer paying $5 for the generic co-pay, versus $40 for the name brand bars.
My tolerance is really really high.... not something I am proud of and I definitely need to begin very carefully tapering off with my doc's supervision in not much longer than a month or so.... but for the time being, it may just be a placebo effect, but I swear I feel that I can feel the bars being more potent and quicker acting.
Like I just took two 2mg generics.... (normally only take them when I really need em but I want to test this) which is 4mg of Xanax - enough to knock any of my friends without a tolerance to the floor... And it's barely had any effect on me. Not that I was feeling especially anxious at the moment, I actually do not feel 'mad chill' or 'relaxed' as you would think 4mg would do to you. I am just as mildly anxious about my upcoming school deadlines and stressed as before taking them.
And the other day, I took a single 2mg bar and felt it much more pronounced from what I can remember. Again, it might of just been the placebo effect, but I also felt that the bars were also actually more effective on removing anxiety all together, instead of just kind of putting you in a retarded, zoned out, tired haze...
I know there must be people here to weigh in on this for once and for all? As much as I like my doctor, they are definitely not always right about shit.
