I write this, stoned of course, but it does not impair my judgement of right and wrong.

I believe, despite the certain steps several U.S States are making to make marijuana use legal - medicinally, it will be quite some time before marijuana is made legal in general to the public, of course to citizens over the age of 21; such as on the same scale that alcohol is legal.

When do I think it will become legal? I believe that most people who are sayings "legalize it" are in their early 20's - early 40's. Once this portion of the population really gains control of the goverment that will be passed down to us (assuming there is still one around); Marijuana will eventually become legalized in the same fashion alcohol is. Especially the Early to mid 1980's born crowd - turned politition - I believe will be a major factor. Since our government is generally ran by people in their 60's and above (minus Obama), I dont anticipate them to change something that has been in place for so long. Considering the stigma, and even the racism which still exists (MJ seen as a "black" man's drug")

But, with a new generation, coming into play, it will only be..(several decades?) before MJ is made legal.

only thing that would cause this to happen sooner; is someone in washington realizing the tax money they could gain from marijuana sales, and the many uses of hemp; - Or perhaps the damage it would do to drug smugglers from mexico. Yes, I know they bring cocaine and heroin and meth too, and they should stay ILLEGAL, but making marijuana legal certainly wouldnt be great news for most drug dealers.

Let me know whatcha think, or if i just did a blazed rambling. Thank you

My dad always tells me the same story when I tell him legalization is within 10-20 years of us....

He said in the 1970s there were a TON of lawyers talking about how weed would be legal in less than 10 years... Obviously nothing changed.

Tabaccy companies and pharm companies won't stand for it... They have a lot of lobbying power.

in Canada its basically legal .

I smoked infront of a copper without realizing and nothing happened .!¬

LAND OF THE FREEEEEE ! CANADA IS THE SHIT

Dude, no shit eh? I always walk down the street smoking a fatty with a few friends. And just today I saw some old guy on the sidewalk drinking a caeser (or v8 ) and smoking a joint.

There was also this cop that lots of kids knew that if he found ya with weed, he wouldn't do anything just if you smoked a joint with him xD. So many times cops have strolled by a park in a van, stopped, saw a group of us smoking some weed and just went on by. Untill I joined this forum I took it for granted but I realize now it's something I really should apreciate

i live near canada like 45 mins and i always go up there and smoke in front of people an no one gives a shit, i live in washington and i walk down the street smokin a j and still no one gives a shit cops dont care either, weed should just be legal

Depends on the focus and how this issue is raised.
As far as I'm concerned, Government has no authority to declare something "for medicinal purposes only" and forbid any other use.
And... we'll see what happens in the Federal Appellate system regarding this...

Black man's drug? Isn't that crack? I thought pot was the lazy Mexican's drug. But it makes them crazy and violent. And lazy. And... er... yeah. Both lazy and violently aggressive. Because that makes sense... :blink :blink

Why should cocaine, heroin, and meth stay illegal?
What about ecstasy, ayahuasca, peyote, shrooms, and lsd?

Who are you to draw those lines?
Weed should be legal - for the simple reason that it cannot be made ILLEGAL under the Constitution.
The same holds true for all drugs; none of them can CONSTITUTIONALLY be illegal.

You cannot choose for me what I do with my property, nor can you criminalize my possession of my personal property.
Determining what an "acceptable use" of someone else's personal property may be is beyond your rights - and a violation of that other person's rights.
Government, with privileged powers derived from the rights of the people, cannot engage in the exercise of a privileged power that exceeds the rights of the people from which that privilege comes.

"Drug related crime" is a misnomer. Crime is crime. Period.
Drug related or otherwise is useful for statistical purposes, but nothing else.
Handgun related crime doesn't require handguns to be prohibited. CRIME is prohibited (the violation of another's rights).
Drug use and possession violates no one's rights; drug use and possession cannot be crime.
Stealing drugs is theft - crime.
Robbing to pay for drugs is theft - crime.
Possessing drugs you've paid for is engaging in possession, a right derivative of property ownership, not derived from Governmental license (as the medical laws claim Government has authority to grant and deny), nor from the property itself (your right to your house comes from the house... not your ownership... It just doesn't make sense... Drugs are not conscious and cannot "grant permission" to be possessed or used).
A "special right" to "drug Y" doesn't have to exist of ownership of "drug y" exists.
The owner has inherent rights to possess, distribute, and use "drug y" for whatever purposes they desire - provided they do not use it to the detriment of anyone else.
See Budd v. People of N.Y. for more on the limits on the exercise of property rights (inclusive of possession, disposal, distribution, licensing, etc.)

Very simply, Government has exceeded its grants of power.
The problem I have right now is that the 3rd district court ruled that there are no property rights in this country.
Imagine what the U.N. would say about that if they found out...

Anyone know a foreign state willing to grant political asylum to a non-violent drug dealer turned political activist? ;)

I wouldn't expect any studies, government comissioned or otherwise, to influence political action on legalization. The US government has a long and proud (by 'proud' I mean criminally ignorant) tradition of ignoring any form of scientific research results that directly relate to political decisions.

I have to agree with Kalash. Who are you (or anyone) to dictate what I do with my property(me) and what chemical I wish to use on it?

In the concept of a free country designed for liberty, there is NO excuse.

Chris

I feel every drug should be legalized. The only thing more dangerous then a dangerous drug is that drug being sold illegally by people only motivated by profits and who have no standard to hold their product to.

Right now the police have basically gotten rid of weed in my suburban town. It is COMPLETELY DRY. Every dealer I know has an undercover posted up outside their house pulling over anyone that goes in or out of their house. They honestly have nothing better to do with their time. I haven't smoked in a week! :p

In response to Kalash
i think that some drugs should still stay illegal, because the potential for someone to cause bodily harm to themselves or others while on "heavier" drugs such as lsd, ecstacy, etc... is increased exponentially than when someone smokes.

no such thing as an OD marijuana that i've heard of. im not saying that people who smoke may harm others or themselves while under the influence, but some people who try psychoactive chemicals sometimes don;t know exactly what they r doing

what if ecstacy was legal and someone bought it but thought hey ill just take it its legal i wont get hurt, then they end up in a er for heat stroke cause they didnt drink anything

imo marijuana is the safest drug to legalise, cause there r no special precautions to take while smoking. and smoking is the way its used.

there is just alot less risk involved with legalizing weed...

Seriously!!!!

i live near canada like 45 mins and i always go up there and smoke in front of people an no one gives a shit, i live in washington and i walk down the street smokin a j and still no one gives a shit cops dont care either, weed should just be legal

I live really close to seattle, and alot of people i know have their own little grow ops.... nothing to extravigant, just enough to get enough to save some money for a little while and maybe keep a clone going so they can have a continuous supply year round. We also have hempfest every year, as long as u dont light the spliff right in front of the cop, nothing usually happens. Washington has already legalized medicinal marijuana.... and routine stops with cops usually turn out pretty good as long as u only have a little. Hey, none of that means shit to me because i paid the $150.00 to get my green cross card, i am allowed to have 15 growing plants and 2 1/2 lbs of consumable marijuana in my home. Can you believe that in washington state my asthma qualified me....?!?!? For the first time ever, i was excited to have asthma!!!! Anyways, happy summer & happy growing!

p.s. incase ur from washington and u wanna see if you qualify, try this site; http://thc-foundation.com/washington/

Yeah i think tobacco and pharmaceutical companys have alot to do with marijuana staying illegal, there are alot of powerfull industries that dont want to see marijuana becoming a legal drug and crop, for the many uses the plant has etc.

So what do you tell the cops when they pull you over and your car reeks of weed? "yeah officer, I'm the one smoking marijuana mutherfucker" "What are you gonna do about it"?

I've been pulled over hotboxing the car several times, when they make me roll down the window smoke billows the fuck out like a music video, lol.

One time I got off by telling him we smoked in my car 2 hours ago (while smoke was still pouring out) and that we were just baking cigarettes. He asked if I could get everyone home safe and let me go, sparked up a blunt on the ride back home ;)
