i posted on the other benzo tolerance thread but had no replies so il copy n paste.
(sorry it's a bit looong winded)

interesting thread as i was going to ask the same question.

although my benzo abuse was embarrassingly high to the point that i count myself lucky to be alive!

it began as a once in a while thing only when i was flying, maybe 40 mg diazepam or 3-4 mg alprazolam, for anywhere between a 4-12 hour flight (im petrified of flying) then around april 2009 i began taking 10 mg diazepam once per week, then around september 2009 i began using recreationally, just once per week (at weekends) but the doseage was upped to anywhere between 20-30 pills of a variety of benzos (alprazolam, bromazepam, diazepam, lorazepam, clonazep am,temazepam, midazolam, nitrazepam)

this continued, but gradually (and predictably) increased in the quantity of benzos i was taking,by chistmas to at least 50 pills (i used to keep a blog of what id taken and when) yet i was still only using once per week at weekends, then into the new year i continued increasing the doseage as my tolerance began to go through the roof,i was still using just at weekends but was now taking 100+ pills which eventually ended up with me taking over 300+ pills each weekend in a 24-36 hour period!

then i was off work sick (unrelated to my benzo use) for some weeks over the summer, due to being stuck at home bored i began taking benzos daily, although only about 30 pills a day but during this time i also began to use opiates (oxycontin).

then about 7 weeks ago i realised what a mess i had become and how id lived the past 10 months in a haze,so i decided to stop taking everything completely,i was aware of the horror stories people talked about when quiting using benzos but to be honest after 7 weeks of not touching anything ive been ok apart from a few weeks of insomnia, derealisation and some twitching.

how long for my tolerance to drop? will it be years,or maybe never due to my chronic abuse?

I don't know what to tell you. That's a crazy tolerance right there. This will most likely get closed cause you can't double post.

I do wish you the best of luck though!

many thanks.

although im sure you can appreciacte why i double posted (albeit on somebody elses thread) due to the zero response :(

besides i fell off the wagon yesterday, injesting 15 mg nimetazepam (which make me feel quite bad) of with i followed it up with 4 mg clonoazepam and 4 mg alprazolam.

needless to say i cant remember a great deal after that!

so it seems like my tolerance has in fact dropped in those 7 weeks 8o

ok, first off you've not been using benzos every day, only weekends... thats a good thing... when you say 300 pills it could be 300 2mg diazepam or 300 2mg alprazolam (huge difference)... so saying you took 300 pills doesn't help much....

try to taper, what is always suggested is to convert your benzo intake into diazepam and reduce by 10% per week

(10mg diazepam= 0.5mg alprazolam= 0.5mg clonazepam= 1mg lorazepam= 20mg temazepam= 5mg nitrazepam= 6mg bromazepam)

sorry i should make my self clearer.

they were 300 of a difference mixture...10 mg diazepam,1mg alprazolam,2mg lorazepam,2 mg clonazepam,3 mg bromazepam,10-20 mg temazepam,5 mg nitrazepam also now 3 mg nimitazepam

what i was trying to explaion was my intake was 300 or so pills of various benzos

i didnt taper,i stopped dead.

anyway yesterday i took a total of 30 mg nimetazepam,4 mg alprazolam,60 mg diazepam and 10 mg clonazepam.

felt a little something....i also complemented it with 40mg oxycontin and felt very nice.

thanks for the response people.

from my experience over the weekend my tolerance has dropped somewhat :) although the amnestic properties of said benzos is as pronounced as ever!!!

i most likely will not be taking any benzos or opiates for another 7-8 weeks...il report back then, unless anybody has anything else to add in the meantime.

So you said "i began taking benzos daily, although only about 30 pills a day", and "I've been ok apart from a few weeks of insomnia, derealisation and some twitching".

That's not "ok" in my book... "Only" 30 pills a day is enormous. And I certainly couldn't live with the derealisation and the weeks of insomnia part when WDing. But to each his own I suppose. Best of luck anyway.

^^he said 300... i find it very hard to believe that you cold turkeyed a 300 pill/day habit, say they were 10mg diazepam, you were taking 3 grams of diazepam??? and you stopped cold turkey no sweat? also your benzo tolerance diminishes depending on how long you've been using... say you've been using for a year, it will take you 2 years to get back to tolerance 0...

your story is like swiss cheese... lots of holes... i'm not accusing, just trying to comprehend

I have a very hard time believing you were taking 300+ pills of various pills on every weekend. How in the hell could you stand up without blacking out within a few hours of taking them and spend the weekend literally sleeping. I mean, seriously. Then you go down to 30 pills daily and after 10 months of taking these massively excessive doses you are able to go COLD TURKEY and experience very mild withdrawals. THAT is what I can't believe.

If this story is somewhat true in anyway, yes you will need to go a year or two to get your tolerance back to nothing considering 10 months of doses like that. It takes a long time to lose benzodiazepine tolerance once you have become addicted, although you claim you were able to just stop with little to no problems.

"its common in the uk for 30 pill a day habits of diaz. its cheap as chips"

No or more less than in the U.S. I just don't believe the quitting cold turkey after 10 months at those doses with very mild withdrawals. He should of gone into seizures or convulsions. That is not safe to do at all.

i second that.8o

sorry if you read correctly,i was using around 300 pills once per week (weekends) for the last few months of my addiction, then for the last month i went onto using around 30 a day (daily) then i quit completely.

sounds hard to believe?? believe me it was hard to do.

i also read from other ex users how many people are put off from giving up using benzos due to many exaggerated scare stories regarding withdrawals,i even had my doubts.

but with a lot of will power (and maybe a stroke of luck) i got through it.

i can perfectly understand why to many it seems far fectched, even to me i can hardly believe i was consuming that amount of pills, but i not once said i was taking 300 pills on a daily basis,i did say on weekends i was taking that many in a 24-36 period.

stupid,i may be.

a liar i am not.

thankyou all for your imput on the subject :)
