Opioids My partner has been having a slug on my methadone!

He has been having about 15-20 mg a day for 4 weeks! Im not sure he is gonna withdraw ifn i take it away..i take 115mg per day and get it mixed with some cordial from the chemist so its not straight...prob dont matter...anyway am i going to have to wean him down do you think...I havent broached the subject yet with him but i see him everyday having a slug on it...ummm...should have stopped him i know..But i cant stand at my fridge all day!
Also he has no tolerance at all...This is the first time in his 54 years that he has had opiates...
Is he going to withdraw do you think?

Yes he will likely withdraw, methadone is an incredibly strong opiate. Normal dosage for an opioid-naive person (with no tolerance or sensitivity) is 5mg(!!!) though some people seem to be able to stomach up to 30mg (I don't ever advise this! People have died from methadone O/Ds too many times). I would titrate him down a few (3-4) milligrams a day to minimize the pain and discomfort.

Please do make sure he's not combining his methadone with alcohol or benzodiazepines (Valium, Ativan etc).
 
that sucks so i bet he had no idea that all the use was gonna have consequences like withdrawl cuz personally WD fucks me up bad now, ive never seen anybody get it as bad as me...make sure he excercises, eats healthy and a good amount to keep your nutrition up, drink alot of water and juices, and you should aslo have him take some vitamins

I got one and was using it..He used my key...I confronted him anyway and he wasnt having as much as i thought...over xmas he had none for 4 days straight...So he should be ok...Was stupid of me not to be more careful anyways,

Saying that:....He desires it everyday now and is having issues with trying not to ask me for any...Ummm...I plan on starting a reduction very soon so it will be outa our lives In a few months..and it will be great! I cant wait for the day i can flip over to soboxone! Thanks guys...
 
Thanks paper planes and seiko...He does enjoy a beer daily, but def no benzos..He is an alcoholic and suffers withdrawal when he gets of the booze...Also i couldnt be sure exactly how much he was having as he was taking a swig outa the bottle, sooo....impossible to tell...He has never had opiates really and feels sick on a panadine forte, but never gets sick when he has a mouthful???Weird!!!
