Over the past year my opiate tolerance has sky-rocketed, and it doesn't feel justified. When I first started using opiates in 2007-2008ish, I seemed to have a normal baseline tolerance. 20mg of Oxycodone (snorted) and 180mg of Codeine (oral) was getting me to a nice place. Over the next 2 years I used opiates very sparingly, they never felt that great to me and generally weren't my thing (was more into stimulants and benzos) as I had a few incidents where I took too much and felt on the verge of puking for hours or one time took 50mg Oxycodone (snorted) and some benzos in an act of ignorance to the dangers, figuring out the next morning just how reckless I had been (after awakening from an unexpected 12 hour slumber).
In late 2009-early 2010 I started to get a bit of a sweet spot for them in the sense that I would actually want to take OxyContin and seek it out, though still very rarely, less than once a month. I still didn't really think I enjoyed them all that much but it was certainly becoming 'nice'. By the start of Summer 2010 I was taking 40mg Oxycodone (oral) for a good noddy high that lasted over 6 hours. I also tried Dilaudid (snorted) that Winter and found I really liked that too...
That summer I acquired a consistent link who I knew personally and began doing it more regularly and began enjoying it more than just thinking it was nice, sometimes it was amazing, went really well with a day of work, more depth than benzos and other depressants, all that jazz. I used it about once a week, sometimes more, sometimes less, and by september 2010 my dose was probably up to 60mg (oral). I was enjoying the oral use over snorting it. My use fell off quite a bit last Autumn except for 2 'binge' type scenarios where I went through 240mg over 3 days, dosing more than once a day though. Then Christmas came and I basically did Oxy or Morphine every day for 2 weeks. My tolerance went up to 80mg Oxy, and I was back to snorting it to get a stronger high from the same amount (though it was shorter lasting).
After this I took 3 weeks off, hoping to lose some tolerance and get that slight dependency over with. I came back to it and found I still needed 80mg snorted, and it didn't make me nod to hard. Odd as I had heard opiate tolerance drops fairly quickly initially at least, though remains raised from natural tolerance forever, and will climb quickly again. Took a month off and in late February I did 80mg/day for 5 days straight and then 120mg (my first time over 80mg) on the 6th day. It seemed a bit ridiculous to spend so much for a 5 hour high, so I took a full month off. To my surprise, after 1 month, my tolerance was just as high, 80mg did not make me nod and I added 40 to it about 40 minutes later for a more complete high. Took another month off.
Then summer started again, I had my link back and but my tolerance was still at 120mg to feel the way I wanted. Long story short, over the past 3 months I have used Oxycodone or Dilaudid fairly consistently, once a week, snorted, and just last Friday I did 240mg Oxy with 1mg Clonazepam and rode my bike home 2 hours later from my friends house. I was quite high, but not nodding, able to be social, function, remember, all that stuff.
It's now been over a week and I plan to stay off for a month or two, and re-evaluate things...
The thing is this tolerance feels unjustified to me, and it is very stubborn and even after 1 month breaks has never seemed to let up at ALL. My dealer, on the other hand, has used the stuff daily since January and he was up to 240mg to get noddy a few weeks ago, for the past 3 or 4 weeks he has only used 20-40mg a day to keep withdrawal to a minimum and the same day I did 240mg after a week off and didn't feel much, he did 160mg and said he could hardly stay awake!
Has anyone else experienced this kind of tolerance to OxyContin or any opiates with relatively moderate use or does this seem rather abnormal? As well as the month breaks and zero reduction in tolerance? I'm becoming worried that even if I quit opiates entirely long-term, that in 3 years if I'm in some traumatic accident and need pain killers I will be in agonizing pain due to my tolerance and the doctors being unaware that I have it, but don't we all...?
