Hello Everyone!
My name is Jennie & I'm new here. I have been reading a lot of info on here but have never posted or registered until now. Let me give you a little background on me. On 3-17-13 I was riding my motorcycle with 2 others & was hit head on by an F150 truck who crossed the center line. Myself & another rider, which was my husband, were airlifted to the nearest trauma unit. I had a large laceration on my forehead & a concussion. If I had not been wearing a good helmet, would not be here today. My eye socket & nose were broken. I had a few cracked ribs & a chest tube was placed due to a collapsed lung on the right side. I had numerous cracks in my pelvis which were pretty darn painful & my collarbone was cracked. My left leg had a tibial plateau fracture (my knee cap was broken) & I had a shattered ankle which now has 3 plates & 27 screws. My right leg had a tib/fib fracture toward the ankle & the right knee was destroyed inside, which resulted in a total knee replacement. My left hand, wrist & last two fingers were also broken. I have a brachial plexus injury to my right arm/shoulder, which caused a winged scapula. I was non-weight bearing on both legs for over 3 months & wheelchair bound for almost 4 months. Thank God for my wonderful mother. She took care of me for almost a year. She is an angel! Riding was truly a passion for me, a way of life. So at this point I am still trying to pick up the pieces of what is left & figure out how to live this new way of life. I've always had anxiety & depression but now its a little worse. I use to work in the healthcare field for almost 13 years at a local hospital as a CNA II, but I can no longer be on my feet for 8 to 12 hours a day, but now I have a boring desk job working for a warranty administrator. So I have a little healthcare experience & knowledge that can hopefully help others out. I no longer ride motorcycles either. A lot of what I enjoy was taken from me that day. I got a life changing experience & the man who hit us got a ticket for crossing the center line... I come across this site while looking for some info on some of the medications I am on & joined. I hope I can help people with my bit of knowledge & experience.

I live in NC near the beautiful mountains. I love the outdoors, animals, music & reading. I really enjoy tattoos & body piercings also. I use to love hiking, but I have to keep it really light now if I go. I still love riding dirt though, either the 4 wheeler or the Razor, especially when we go spend time in WV. I would love to chat with some of you & hopefully make some new friends!

Hey Jennie glad to have you here :)

Sorry to hear about the circumstances on how you came to find the site, having never been in an accident on the road (touchwood, thank the lord) I can only imagine what you went through and are still going through today. I hope your husband recovered as well. I'm happy to hear that your mother was really supportive and that you have a job now so money is coming in and a roof is over your head. That's good!

As for the bloke who hit you both .... if all he got was a ticket then I hope he at least chipped in on your medical bills!!

If you need any help around the site or anything, don't be afraid to send me a message. Otherwise, have fun!

Welcome to BL.. but i have a question.

How were you on a motorcycle with 2 others? 3 on one bike?
Sorry to hear about what happened.

If you need any help on the site, don't hesitate to ask.
And come join us cool people in the NMI social.. =D
Again. Welcome to Bluelight! %)

Welcome to Bluelight im sure you will be a big help around here with your experience.

Welcome! And I too am sorry to hear about your pain! But you being a nurse, I'm sure you could do a great number of members some good with your medical experience!

angeleyes, as for the guy who hit us, no help from him. He has paid nothing of our hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical bills, that continue to mount. We have never even received an apology. That is all my really husband wants, just a apology, but we have never heard from him & never met him. He has all our info from the police report, just like we have his, so if he wanted to contact us or come see us he easily could have. My husband wants to go to his house so he can see us & see what he has done & maybe get that apology, but I have told my husband that it is not a good idea. Not yet anyway, considering the feelings my husband still holds toward him. Because that guy may very well tell us to F*** off. Then what... Can he handle that? I don't know... so I think its best we don't go yet. Maybe one day we will go to his house.

HdoubleODeezy, we were all on our own motorcycles, 3 of us on 3 bikes. He almost hit the third bike too, but my friend saw him coming & got off the road just in time. I don't remember any of it & it's probably best really. Although sometimes I do wish I could remember it. I don't ride doubles anymore. I haven't in many years. Its a lot more fun to actually drive & a lot less nerve racking being the one in control. Also what is NMI social? I may figure it out when I poke around some more.

garbagegutz, yes absolutely! If we didn't have on some of the best gear, I don't think we would be here! I was wearing an expensive shoei helmet & it was destroyed, so I can only imagine what my face would have looked like had I been wearing a cheap helmet or something like those half helmets people wear. It looked like someone beat the crap out of me. I had black eyes, broken nose & my forehead was laid open. My lips were busted, it was bad! I took a selfie in the hospital, having no idea what I looked like & was shocked when I turned the phone around! No one had warned me how bad I looked. That was one thing we always made sure of of, having good gear & always wearing it, all of it. Even on those days it was 100 degrees out, we were geared up.

Riding is a greatest stress reliever!

Hi Jennie and welcome!!!
It's always nice having med. professionals around to help with all our madness, good karma for u ;)

Welcome Jennie! I'm new here too and am in the medical profession. Can certainly empathize with what you have been going through although our experiences are unique. Looking forward to hearing more from you more :)

Hi Jennie ! !

I used to ride and was carrying suitcases driving my bike back from the airport on the freeway when a semi pulled into my lane hitting me. I skidded a couple lanes and almost flipped my bike. Scared the hell out of me. I now drive a car…. take transport around the city.

Anyways, hope you find blue light to be helpful for medications. There is a plethora of info on here. I am semi new this year myself.

Best,
Smoky
