Hey everyone, Im not sure if this is the correct spot for this post. My girlfriend started Zoloft 100mg about 4-5 months ago. Lately it seems as though she is in lala land (sorry thats the best way I can describe it). Could there be a direct correlation with the Zoloft an the recent personality changes? I have only just noticed it so I can't give a exact time after the starting point of the Zoloft an the changes. Any help would be gravely appreciated. Thank you

Does she do any other drugs? If you take "get her off the meds", she will need to tapper down =/

It would be apprecieted if you tried harder =p
Actually the whole post doens't give much infos. Does she have a history of drug abuse? How old is she? Did the Zoloft help her before the bizarre symptomes? etc etc..

dude zoloft is baaaaaaaaadddd shit man out of all the anit D's i took that fucked me up the most.Gave me full on bipolar 1 min i would be super happy off with the fairys cannt help giggling the next min i was crying my eyes out planing to top myself :\

What you will want her to do is down her dose and if that dosent work slowly taper off....100mg is a big dose IMO i was having half her dose a day and it fucked me up....hope that helps mate good luck :)

I know several people who are on setraline HCL (zoloft) who do not have the side effects you described. In fact, assuming your dose is being correctly gauged by your doctor, without the existence of type II bipolar or concurrent drug use you should see pretty typical SSRI behavior. Do you know why she was prescribed zoloft, and at what dose per body weight? As above posters have asked does she have any other drug use, and has she ever been prescribed any other medications?

A lot of people I know that went on SSRIs acted like they were always in la la land, or a really fake character from a 90s disney channel show, if that makes any sense.

My 2 cents is get her off that stuff

^ and others are asking the right questions, I will ask them too....what's her drug use/personality history like?

Oftentimes SSRI's will cause personality changes if the dose is too high, or if they are improperly prescribed, however, if she has a condition like depression or mild bipolar i would be wary of discontinuing her medication as it may have reprecussions that you regret far more than any side effects. This sounds kind of lame but perhaps just talk to her psych and see if you can get the dose adjusted.

She us 20 years old. She has been on a few other SSRIs before. She has been know to much on a few bikkies in the past an smoke a few joints but she doesn't Ness with it while on a medication. She told me last night she thinks she has bipolar an not major depression which is what she is on Zoloft for. Her personality before was that of a typical person with depression. She was quiet reckless an didn't give a fuck what anyone else thought. Lately she has gotten teddys out an cuddling them at night ect... which I find weird cause I feel like Im dating a 10 year old but that's besides the point. Thank you for all the replys.

Oh, sure. Of course, she should stop taking a medication that she may very well need, something that may be really helping her, just because you personally didn't have a good time with that medications, because we all know that every individual reacts to the same substance at the same dose in the same exact way. Yeah... (Sarcasm)

Medications cannot give you bipolar disorder. It doesn't work that way. You either are bipolar or you aren't. Also, bipolar disorder isn't something that can simply be reduced to ups and downs; it's far more complicated than that.

Absolutely terrible and potentially dangerous advise. A person being prescribed Zoloft should only ever taper off of that medication under the direct supervision and direction of a licensed psychiatrist who has access to that person's full medical history. It is unwise to suggest that someone taper him or herself off of medications like this due to potential health issues that could arise. You don't have the education and experience, or the access to this girl's medical history to determine whether or not 100mg is an appropriate dose for her.

In response to the OP: If she has been on this medication for 4+ months, it likely isn't the medication at all that is causing her change in mood or behavior; she's been on it for many, many months. If the medication would have caused this it would have shown up quite a long while ago. If anything, by now any side effects that she experiences from the Zoloft should have dissipated. Does SHE feel that something is wrong? If so, SHE should speak to her psychiatrist and therapist about her concerns. Otherwise, there isn't a problem. I'd caution you to ignore all of the people telling you that these medications are evil or that you should advise your girlfriend to alter her dose in any way without express permission and guidance from her prescribing doctor.

Shit, my dad just ending a 6 week or 8 week cycle , hopefully ... they wont tell me if its 3 months???

I see this exact same behavior you stated.

and the beeeacth doc gave him 1 mg clonaz and told him to take 1 a day for 120 days straight. He's done now.

I can only expect what to expect...

Garbage. Thats what it is !! :X:(

Embers fading is right. I will not ask her to alter or discontinue medication as it is her body. I have expressed my concern to her an she knows exactly how I feel about anti ds. I asked her to consult her GP an maybe look into different styles of pain management. Thank you everybody.
