Sooooooo, i have a friend who basically knows shit. He states that he can take a suboxone (ususally just half of a big guy so about 4 mg bupe) and has no problem getting high 8 hours later off of oxy. I really would not be too concerned about this, i mean he really is just lying to himself, but I have seen him take massive amounts of oxy while doing this stating his tolerance is off the roof while i am sitting there thinking ~ Dude, the reason you can take massive amounts is because the fucking sub is blocking. Through my own experience, 36 hours is about the absolute LEAST amount of time i have to wait to feel anything. The reason I am posting this (because i know this is a harm prevention site and I really really hope this does not get removed or told to view the megathread) is because I am scared that my friend is going to OD on the oxy without even knowing. Is it just me or does is he facing this? Its like this. I would say his normal tolerance is about 100 - 150 mg oxy daily however when he uses the sub that tolerance bumps to about 300 mg. maybe more. Even though he does not let on I watch what he uses (shit he might even be using more this is only the stuff i watch him injest). I do not want to lose a friend, I really wish he would just stick the subs for good and not even go back to oxy. I am oxy free, and although suboxone just didnt work for me, I am on methadone maintenance and been clean (or whatever you can call it) for some time now. I feel great, i wish i could say the same for my friend. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks all.

Yes, it is possible to overdose on oxycodone! Your friend is on a very destructive path and needs to monitor his future use of oxycodone, especially while taking buprenorphine.

As you may know, and simply put, his dose of buprenorphine has a higher affinity for the opiate receptor than oxycodone; and as such it requires a tremendous dose to cross the buprenorphine "bloackade." This means that he wastes his drug of choice to overcome this blockade, leading to a greater chance of respiratory depression from the intake of too much oxycodone. I also doubt that the oxycodone is working efficiently in his body; as buprenorphine is a partial agonist of the mu receptor, responsible for many of oxycodone's euphoric effects.

I just don't understand why he'd abuse oxycodone while on buprenorphine therapy. Explain to him the dangers of his continued use of elevated levels of oxycodone.

No problem, buddy! Opiate addiction is a formidable monster and persons addicted can ignore all logic and relapse to their drug of choice. It's a struggle, no doubt. I congratulate you to sticking to your methadone therapy. I wish the best for you and your friend.

yea dude hes being a fool. if he thinks he can do that much all the time, hes gonna be blue and cold next time he does oxy when he doesnt have sub blocking.

please convince him before its too late
