You got in your car and you drove away
little did you know this was your last day
the final goodbye is the hardest to say
I wish it could have happened another way
terror has struck this small community
but brought us together and taught us about unity
you meant the world to others and me
you meant the world but left us to be
a tear falls with every thought of you now
as I think to myself, "I coulda changed it somehow"
this is too early we thought to ourselves
you’re coming home, hell your next outfit’s on your shelves
your CDs are all out cause you couldn’t decide
your pillows still wet from the tears that you cried
you were so full of emotion so happy to be
just being alive and well filled you with glee
whenever I saw you, you shook hands with me
I took that for granted, it took me this long to see
you were the life of the party overcome with smiles
and friends would line up for miles and miles
just to say "hey Adam! Where have you been!?"
we’ve been waiting here since 930 or 10
but never before have you let a friend down
and so rarely has a friend seen their buddy frown
that’s why it’s so hard to see you like that
no smile, no laughter, and emotionless, you sat
the first time at your casket was the time I dread most
that was the time you seemed more like a ghost
so nonexistent you laid, but simultaneously you’re there
but gone from civilization and without a care
I know you were watching down on everyone
and watching your parents cry for their son
nothing can be done to change your ill fate
but still we sit down, tap our feet, and just wait
"This is all a big joke trust me I know him,"
but you never jumped up to say "Hey guys! Just kiddin!"
I left from you side a few moments to sit
to think things through and realize this is it
I went back inside to say my final goodbyes
I could have stood there forever just to stare into your eyes
I grabbed hold of your hand and held for a while
expecting you to squeeze back or a least gimme a smile
but once again, nothing, as I wiped tears away
and thought to myself, "what a horrible day"
with that I began to walk hand and hand
but you didn’t follow and I understand
so I walked on… following the trail of tears
with thoughts of how good of friends we were all those years
the smallest smile came to my face
as I thought "Adam… you’re in a better place…"

That is amazing, I can't even begin to imagine what it is like to lose a friend like you unfortunatelly have.
But with your words you make me think about it more than I ever have done before.

gosh, every damn line in this got to me, i cant quote just one...
wait, yes, i can:
the final goodbye is the hardest to say
that's what it comes down to.
hugs to you my friend. you said it yourself... he's in a better place. cherish all the wonderful times you had with him. memories are not just for crying over. let them give you strength.

the final goodbye is the hardest to say
this is true, not only in death, but in life. these words actaully brought tears to my eyes. very powerful.
whenever I saw you, you shook hands with me
I took that for granted, it took me this long to see
not having the opportunity to say goodbye is often difficult at best. taking someone for granted until they are gone, and then remembering all of those things that we miss so much now that they are gone is part of the ways of remembering the person. it is also a good reminder to appreciate and value eveerything more. i am vvery sorry about your loss, and my condolences to you, your friend, and his family.
