For a couple weeks I've been curious to try nicotine for the first time. One of my friends dips all the time, and admits to being addicted. He even told a story of his first dip... he promised that he would just try it once, but here he is months later and still dipping. After 3 days without, he will always be like, man I need a dip... and he'll mention it every once in a while. Haha. Anyways....
I've only used opiates so far (Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Meperidine, Codeine) so I was curious what all the hype about nicotine was all about. The second time I experimented with Oxycodone I took 10mg, and the high was so euphoric it was just amazing, and satisfying. That week I took a little binge on painkillers, and ended it with a bottle of codeine cough syrup. I felt a little drowsy on the syrup, and after about an hour I figured this little buzz was the best it was gonna get, so I closed my heavy eyelids and went to sleep. When I woke up some unknown amount of time later, I felt a little nauseated, very tired and dreamy, and my eyes were sore, but... I was in heaven. I nodded off several times before drifting into sleep... to experience the most horrifying nightmare of my entire life. It was pretty graphic, and had lots to do with people getting chopped up by swords. Anyways...
My friend had told me (after I questioned him about the feeling he liked so much) was that nicotine gets you 'into your happy place, just like all those other illegal drugs.' Now I'm not sure why he felt he was in a place to make that assumption, since he has only used tobacco and alcohol, but I guess it's because I described the high of painkillers as 'just super happy, for no reason at all, kinda like if the NFL drafted you, but they didn't, but the feeling is like they did.' (I don't care for football much but everyone else does.)
Well one night I asked for a dip, 'just to try it', and after a lot of joking and sarcasm, I crammed a rather large bit of chew into my mouth, and put it in the side of my mouth like suggested. For a few seconds I was pretty dizzy (I think I was more dizzy then I realized, because I tried to sit down and knocked my head against the wall haha). I waited a minute, after which I seemed to be awake (I was really tired and sore before), trying to get used to the extremely strong taste, when I accidentally swallowed a little bit of the stuff. Ugh! It didn't taste that bad, but it burned my throat, i got extremely nauseous instantly, and felt like I was on the brink of throwing up. Luckily I kept it in, but I sucked at spitting and ended up spitting half the chew out. I then went in the bathroom, holding it in (the taste and burn wasn't so uncomfortable now) and seeing if I could get 'higher.' I spit it out 5 minutes later, but this is what I got out of it:
No euphoria. Definitely disappointing, it was nothing at all like the amazing high from opiates.
Increased energy and alertness. I made the comment that I felt like I could go in the weight room and work out all day
Is this typical? I really don't understand why this stuff is so addicting. Getting 'hooked' from the first try? From my point of view that's ridiculous. I don't feel any desire to do nicotine again. After a week of opiates, I didn't feel any genuine 'cravings', I did feel kinda bored for a few days after, but I'm not hooked (not yet? %) ). I started to do opiates every weekend for a few weeks, but I took a month off to make sure I wasn't developing a nasty habit. (That month is almost over by the way).
In my opinion from my limited experience, opiates are more addicting then nicotine, but neither will get you 'hooked' on your first try. (Not orally, at least).
I might try nicotine in a couple months again to see if I can actually get any real euphoria. Not that it would replace opiates, though.

Why do people like it so much? Couldn't it be substituted with a cup of coffee (caffeine)? Coffee doesn't make you dizzy anyway.
