I am in quite a pickle. My PM doctor of a year told me I need to find a new practice to visit to manage my pain. I have MS and transverse myelitis and am working on getting a better diagnosis. Hopkins is working me up for cancer, and fibromialga. I loved my prior pain doctor and she did a lot to help me. Unfortunately, my husband stole my medication from me (several times, but only reported it to her once, which she refilled again), then I lost my medication in a cab since I dont drive. Because of that she told me to go elsewhere. Now, I can not find a doctor that will write my previous medications of 180x 8MG dilauded and 60x 40MG opana ER. I went to a doctor today and he said he doesnt write that kind of medication. I'm young, 21, and need this to function. I was hospitalized for a month when i was diagnosed. My old PM doctor told me I should not have a problem finding a new doctor since my U/A's were always clean. Why would he tell me he wants to ween me off of this medication when it has worked for me for so long? I'm fucked! Im already feeling w/d's coming on, and cant find a pain specialist in Annapolis/Baltimore to see! I dont know what to do, Im even considering going to a methadone clinic (but they dont pick up their phone!). On top of this, I was fired today. I can not work without pain meds.

The doctor I saw today who didnt write anything was rude and hurt me while he examined me, I'm still hurting from that. He told me no one in the practice could help me and didnt listen to anything about my diagnosis. If anyone can offer advice, please do!

Oh man, I am so sorry this happened to you. This exact thing happened to me as well. The only thing I can think of is to go back to the doctor that diagnosed you with MS and myelitis..is that an option? That is what I ended up having to do. I am really sorry that you are going through this.

Do a Google search, we're not here to help you find pain doctors. They're in every city.

See a specialist, not a GP. Get the paperwork from your former doctors, etc.

I'm not asking anyone to give me a referral to their doctor. Im asking if this has happened to anyone and what to do. Thank you

Yeah your in real trouble. Being 21 and on those specific drugs is going to be a red flag at most PM doctors. All you can do is put your ducks in a row from a medical records standpoint and pray you find a compassionate doctor. However i am not optimistic. As far as methadone I wouldnt if you still wanna go the PM route. When a 21 year old who is already on methadone comes in asking for strong opiates your going to get laughed out of the office.

You have some really good advice given.

Get your medical records together.

Call your insurance ask for drs in network.

And or google pm drs in your area.

Losing scripts is a bad thing. If you do happen to lose it file a police report ASAP!

If I were you I would only carry a small amount with me in a old pill bottle do if it does happen you won't lose much and you don't have to call the dr. On the medical board losing prescriptions is a sign of drug abuse. This is mostlikly why she dropped you. She has to protect herself.

As a fellow chronic pain sufforer I know exactly what you are going through. I don't even see how these heartlesss doctors manage to sleep at night knowing how many lives they have destroyed by underperscribing and refusing treatment to people with serious health issues. It took me a long time to get on opiates and even longer to acualy get on ones that gave me proper relief. I had to drop out of college because I was underperscribed. I don't even want to think what would happen if I got cut off from my medication. You just have to keep searching and make sure you bring all your medical records relating to your conditions and I mean all of them.

you should check this thrad out it is very helpfull and has loads of people dealing with what you are

The most drs are fuckin bustards, they are fuckin fearful chickens that don't give a shit about anyone's pain, they just wanna fill their fuckin greed mouths with money, but fortunatelly there are some who cares about people's problem and pain, (I just think they are a lot less..). I hope you'll find one of them mate, cause the red fuckin flag...and while in pain..i wish you all the good luck, pal..

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try a few more doctors. I'm just so upset how that doctor treated me. He even called himself an asshole. I haven't been able to go to school or work. I didn't realize how lucky I was with my last doctor (bless her heart). I'm going to do as you reccomend and gather all of my files and films. Hopefully the next doctor will listen. I've even asked if I could do injections, and I was told no because my spinal cord is too week and has too many scars. Thanks everyone

Man, all I can do is pray for you and believe you. I will support you in what desicion you make but, man I thought I had issues. I know what it feels like to be locked out into the cold but I hope you do get the right treatment and fast.

I'm so sorry about you are going through and I really hope you are able to find a good compassionate pain management doctor. Often it takes some effort and trying different doctors to find one who is a good fit for you. I don't know what more help we can be so I'm going to close this so it doesn't end up getting into "what to say to a doctor to get drugs" territory. But please if you need any help on dealing with withdrawal symptoms check out our threads on opioid withdrawal, and if you need any help on non-drug treatments for pain please let me know or start a new thread. And feel free to PM me if you have any questions about where to find info or if you don't feel this thread should have been closed. Good luck!
