My advice for come-up anxiety

Get active.

In my experience, it's been that simple. I get pretty bad come-up anxiety on most trips, especially when I'm taking more of a substance than I've ever taken before (which is most times). It tends to happen, funnily enough, while the effects themselves are at their least noticeable or intimidating; it's simply that the sudden reality shift, and the anticipation of the unknown to come, is highly unnerving.

Now, last time I took shrooms, a potent batch at 3.5g, I sat around my room looking about anxiously for a little bit. Last time I'd taken a dose like that, things got very fucked up, very fast. I was scared of ego death and losing my mind (and, as it happened, both those things did occur later on, though it wasn't as bad as I'd expected). I came to realise, though, that the cause of this anxiety was thus:

With nothing to direct your altered, hyper-analytical state of consciousness towards, it turns inwards upon itself. And with nothing to focus on but how rapidly things are changing, the feelings of fear and anticipation get enhanced the same way any other feeling does on a trip.

Therefore, move.

Do something with that nervous energy. Some people have recommended watching a video to take your mind off it; I imagine this could work well, but it's still a passive activity. One thing I like to do is dance, which might sound stupid, but there are few feelings so amazing as letting the psychedelic spirit possess your body and do amazing things with your sense of rhythm and coordination. It feels like becoming comfortable and at ease in a new energy-body, instead of waiting around getting jittery while it forces itself upon you. Another thing that often works is simply walking. Walk through nature, observe the initial effects, have a goal in mind, a destination to get to. Whatever you do, do something other than turn inwards on the looming experience. I predict you will soon find that the effects are much milder and less intimidating than you were making them out to be.

Hope that helps. :)

Good advice there. I've found that a good sauna followed by a swim in (preferably cold) water does miracles, especially with 2C's bodyload-induced come up anxiety - try it if you can. The rush that follows when you get out of the water is also... out of this world. Of course, be sure that you don't sink like a rock or otherwise get hurt, have someone sober to watch over these activities.

doing something activly is definatly a good way
i was wondering if some one has tried shortly after dosing a psychedelic to take ketamine enough to k-hole and bam when coming out of it your already(still) triping ?

I tend to plow into a 7 chacra sun-salutation yoga routine..than some good old-fashion Guy-Fu Big Sur style tai chi..than back to some more yoga, than some more tai-chi. By that time I can generaly kick back with the lights out and the headphones on and let my mind wander. Be very carefull with the music selection thou...if it's making you feel weird (the music) don't waste alot of time before taking that (music selection) off and putting on something else.

The right music makes an enormous difference in the quality of the trip...if the music is creeping you out..change it!

"Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Say this as deep as possible. I think a lot of anxiety has to with becoming depersonalized. By chanting "Om," many parts inside your body vibrate, allowing you to "know" where, who, what you are.

I've always really really enjoyed cleaning for these sorts of things. Dependent of the type theres lots of movement, definitely enough so to occupy all your needs. Plus once your done, your tripping balls in a pristine nice clean environment and you feel good for cleaning!

Its good advice. I took 4-aco-dmt, 4-ho-met, and mescaline together once and it was a bit rough the first half hour or so. Not from the mescaline, but the tryptamines. Taking them all together has the mesc kicking in right about at the middle of the peak of the trypts, which is perfect imho.

Anyway, it was out in the woods as i was preparing to go on a bike ride, and as soon as i was on the trail and put some of that energy to use it was all good. Very much all good, one of the best trips i've had this year. Probably would not have enjoyed it as much if i was just sitting/lying around at home or out there. Especially once the mescaline kicked in. Prob not a good idea to be doing that around cars and shit depending on how hard your tripping though, but that should be obvious to most.

Another good strategy is going for a walk where you know your not going to be disturbed (preferably out in the woods somewhere). Just moving around in general helps alot, i tend to get a bit claustrophobic sometimes when tripping indoors, going outside and just wandering about always helped. Granted not everyone can do this, but if you live somewhere you can its worth it imho.

What's a small step in learning to parachute?

jumping off a hill ? with parachute

a good way to remove post trip anxiety ? i don't know, perhaps don't trip if you feel anxious, to begin with ? perhaps physical activity until you feel a little tired, not enough to sleep, enough to relax and not be all jumpy, then eat the trip

I get really bad come-up anxiety as well. Sucks. I tried some GBL/GHB the last time I did LSD and it worked well. G wore off as I reached the peak.

I think your insights are right on.

Letting your mind get captivated by other stimuli is very helpful, I like complex instrumental albums for the come up, because they are so captivating and full of stimuli its hard for your mind to wander off. Instead, the beauty of music is what overwhelms you in a good way, and from there you are settled as you start to drift into your psychedelic headspace.

Another great trick is to take a shower about 5-10 minutes before it kicks in, the warm water in a shower is very relaxing and settling and really helps with intense come ups and sets a great mood for the upcoming trip. Although one time, it felt like my Shower launched off into outerspace, where I could almost trick myself to thinking I would be opening the door into space. Half knowing that wouldn't be the case, but going along with imagination in trips can be great =)

Amazing. I did the same thing today, I was very scared while on DXM and finally just started moving around and eventually watched a random movie and before u knew it, the anxiety was gone

One of the smoothest and best–vibe come up exps Ive had was when I was picking up litter crap alongside a little city mini– waterfall park thing while coming up on LSD. By the time I was fairly content with the amount of work I'd done to rejuvenate the nice little surrounding walkways of the water front...i was high on LSD! And the Earth gave me a big hug it felt like :-) lol (or maybe those surrounding tress and wildlife shot me with their loving energy beams...i felt gratitude and good vibes none the less)

Dancing it out is definitely a great thing to do, except usually a lot of my pre-trip anxiety is coupled with the nausea the chem is giving me. So I have to overcome both of those things to get up and start moving around, which can be pretty difficult.

Moving definitely works, especially with 2C-Xs for me. I always dance on the come up and throughout the trip - and if things ever get weird, uncomfortable or bad, walking to a new place (so it doubles as activity and changing your setting) almost always fixes things - as does dancing :)
