The following are tips from experience, not any paticular research.
Vitamin C + Zinc supplements - I'm a heavy smoker and so prone to nasty chest infections and generally feeling like shit in the morning. These supplements made me feel less dead on early mornings with alot less phlegmy coughing. Also good for rolling I've heard! No more trudging along the train feeling like crap!
Martial Arts - There's alot to be said about taking up a martial art, as cheesy as it sounds. I have trained in Shotokan Karate for about 7 years total (although havent for about 2 years). I've got quite a bad temper and a short fuse, but going to a strict dojo not only breeds self confidence, but increases discipline in your life. I was arguing back less with my parents, and generally just a calmer individual. Other sports such as boxing also allow you to vent your frustrations in a safe and supportive environment, allowing you to feel calmer in normal life.
People without alot of self confidence need not fear, I have met worse in other dojos. You don't have to spar until you are ready, but of course it'll help with your grading if you do it as soon as possible. Try your hardest in training, and reap the benefits. Other benefits obviously include increasing your fitness, and my abs were getting particularly toned from tough training routines (although I coupled it with protein supplements).
You don't have to be big built for martial arts, it's mostly about mental discipline.
Sleep - Ever so simple. Lack of sleep will make you edgy, and if you're like me and have a severe caffiene and nicotine addiction, then a decent sleeping pattern will do you the world of good.
Simple but hopefully not patronising or preachy. I've found these simple three lifestyle choices will help you feel alot happier with life ! Hope it works for you !
