MXPCP: the rave test

Alright, so after hearing more than a few mentions that this substance would be great for raving, I decided a proper test/report would be useful for those who are curious about using it in this setting. After the fact, I can confidently say that this substance smacks at a rave. Like this was made for raving. This was one of my top drug experiences at a festival and in general is becoming one of my favorite dissociatives for being in a social atmosphere and music enjoyment. For context, I have used ketamine somewhat regularly (once every 1-2 months) for about 3 years, and have no experience with PCP analogs. I would say I have a mild dissociative tolerance.

The set and setting was a 3 day camping festival mainly focused on house, drum and bass, and bass music. I was attending with 7 friends including my girlfriend, all of whom I feel pretty comfortable with. The festival was on a weekend, with the main lineups on Sat-Sun, and a pre-party on Friday. Since I planned to take MDMA the main days (not the best, I know), I was looking to take something on Friday that wouldn’t knock me down too bad the following days, and would give me solid energy and preferably some headspace. Pretty much everyone else in my group drank, but I am not a fan of alcohol and much prefer dissociatives for this type of environment. After taking a small MXPCP dose the weekend prior, I felt confident that this substance would suit my needs.

T 0:00 - 20 mg (insufflated) as I was starting to get dressed in my tent. First effects were noticed within 2 minutes: a calm lightness that stemmed from my spine and let me relax my shoulders. I felt content and excited for what was coming, both internally and externally. Very caught up in the moment and definitely struggling a bit to organize my essentials into my bag for the night. Ended up spending about 30 minutes in the tent lol. Fully aware of what I am doing but easily distracted by tangential thinking, and not at all mad about it. I was having a great time, actually, styling myself and getting creative with my outfit. Finally made it outside to hang out with the rest of the group as they took shots.

T 0:45 - We start heading to the party now. It is about 8:40 pm and as we walk through the campground all of the lights and decorations glow with an energetic warmth. I feel fully embodied, confident, and uninhibited. I would compare this level of intoxication to maybe 2-3 beers, but the effect was much more psychological. I felt fully in control of my body, and 100% relaxed; and yet there is a stimulation there also that makes every movement and interaction feel effortless. As we walk, I get into a conversation with one friend who I wasn’t as close with, and we start talking about acid and psychedelic experiences in general. Prior to this, I had felt a bit of anxiety around this person, as I generally do with new acquaintances. Now, I felt completely uninhibited. Similarly to with alcohol, all those second guessing thoughts went out the window and we were going deep, sharing stories and experiences, and we really connected here. I felt like I had no cares in the world and as we finally made our way into the festival the excitement kept building.

T 1:15 - We make it inside the party and I am fully up now. I feel like I am entering a mystical behemoth erupting with mutated and sizzling energy that has taken the form of a dj set: It is both things at once. This is a psychological perception more than a visual distortion at this phase of the trip. Me and bro smoke a few spliffs and are vibing heavy to a dj playing dubstep/future bass. Everyone in the group is dancing together and we are all having a great time. I feel completely matched in energy and silliness to them in their drunk state. At one point fire blasts from the top of the stage and it feels like an outcropping on an alien planet erupting molten gas. I am amused. I decide to take another 10 mg orally. We keep smoking and dancing for about an hour. (Side note: I have noticed that cannabis potentiates this substance wonderfully. It tends to kick up the psychological aspect a notch and adds more depth)

T 2:15 - At this point some of my friends start to feel too drunk and we decide to head back to camp for a water break. I feel content with this and we exit the crowd and start walking through the venue. I am aware of everyone around me and see the unique beauty of their individual expressions. I feel a push to give compliments and spark small conversations with strangers. As we wander back we stumble upon a large playground that is part of the venue. About half our group is stoked on this and we sprint over. I literally felt like a 5 year old kid let loose for recess. We go down the slide, hit the seesaw, do monkey bars, and let me tell you this was one of the most pure moments I have had in a long time. Inner child moment.

T 2:40 - We make it back to camp and sit down to rest. Water and spliff are passed around, and my friends drink more. At this point, sitting down in the camp I started to feel a sort of disoriented nausea. I felt like I needed to do something with my body and the more I didn’t the more wonky I felt. Very similar to the seasick feeling from ketamine. I decided to take 2 10mg sprays from a ketamine nasal spray. As soon as that hit I was stabilized. I felt that warmth and slight numbness and it burned the nausea away like the sun coming out from the fog. I felt rejuvenated. As the ketamine took hold it added a sort of sparkle to the trip. The effects of the MXPCP had plateaued and the ketamine sort of breathed life into it again. We rally and head back out.

T 3:45 - Entering back into the rave now. This time it’s a house set which is perfectly suited to my mood. I feel ready to dance, and the 4/4 beat just makes it effortless. This immersion in the music feels very similar to MDMA, and it is equally as interesting. I am flowing and creating through movement, and each beat I hit stokes a fire in me. It feels so damn good. I would say in this stage it was very similar to MDMA, but with less body stimulation and no jaw clenching or fidgeting. I feel more fiery, whereas MDMA feels more electric. Absolutely content to be right where I am, so grateful to be surrounded by the people I am with, and blown away with the quality of this substance. I make a friend in the crowd and he passes me a pair of snow goggles he is wearing. The polarized lens changes my visual field into a sort of icy steely cool and is very amusing. The effect of the goggles is pronounced and it looks almost like I am underwater in the rave. Absolutely bonkers.

T 4:15 - I take 4 more 10 mg ketamine sprays (40mg total) and this bumps things back up. The balance of the experience is shifting now towards being dominated by the ketamine, however I still feel pretty in control of my body and have lots of energy to dance. I feel light and floaty, somewhat disoriented but not caring at all. I make some more friends and share bumps with them, as well as the rest of my group. There is a carefree, blasé enjoyment that settles over all of us and we dance and joke and hug. It is some of my friend’s first time trying ketamine and they love it. It is a very therapeutic moment for all of us and we feel content.

T 5:15 - Some of my group is starting to feel tired and we decide we wouldn’t mind heading back to camp. We make our exit and wander aimlessly towards our campsite, none of us too sure if we are going the right way or really caring. We pass by a lake and through a vendor area, admiring the details in everything. We finally make it to our site and settle in for a bedtime smoke. I take another 10 mg bump of MXPCP which quickly takes effect, but is much diminished as I am on the tail end of the larger dose. We talk and chill for about an hour and then head to bed. In bed I still am very dissociated, and travel in my mind with eyes closed. Worlds with alien castles of bright fluorescent light and intricate metallic detailing drift behind my eyes as I slowly fade into dreams.

T 7:00 - Sleep.

Notes: So yea, this was great. As a rave drug I would rate it 8.5/10. Very very euphoric, clear headed, light hearted, with amazing music enjoyment and 0 hangover (I actually felt amazing the next day). Music fully became the physical space at some points similar to ketamine ime. It can be a headfuck, but in such a blasé manner that it is hard to feel like this is not enjoyable. I felt immensely connected to my friends, and happy to socialize with new people. As someone who often experiences anxiety at events like this, and in general, this headspace felt like a godsend. I did not feel an urge to repose compulsively, and actually used less than I had allotted myself for the night. Its synergy with ketamine and cannabis is unique and offers a great balance of depth and social ability. Definitely will continue to research the potential of this substance in a rave/festival environment. Thank u for your time :p

P.S. This experience has made me curious about other PCP analogs in a rave setting. What are you guys favorites?
