Dream I had/story I wrote about a friend of mine:
I don't know if this has already been posted/discussed, but I have just found out through trial and error that MXE also uses up and depletes serotonin to some degree. I was already aware of its dopamine re-uptake inhibitor/ (and agonist?) effects, and had been taking L-DOPA (mucuna w/ 40% L-DOPA) to compensate for frequent use (bad I know). What I noticed was that the visuals that I had when i first started taking it went away after more frequent use, although the dopamine effects remained strong. Also, when I first started taking it, I could sleep a lot easier than I could now after a night...now it takes a lot longer before dopamine buzz wears off and I can sleep. I had been using 5-HTP and L-Tryptophan at night before bed, but had slacked off for a while...visuals had gone far away, gotten really thin. I finally started taking L-tryptophan + 5-HTP combination before bedtime again, and low and behold, visuals come back! Very quickly in fact. This made complete sense to me as many of the hallucinogens are tryptamines....I was like, "Duh!" So I now take both 5-HTP, L-tryptophan, and mucuna daily to compensate. I waited a few times to be sure, but, at least for me - it works. I sleep easier and get more visuals + other good things you will likely note on your own should you experiment. Please note I also take Effexor 150 mg and wellbutrin 150 mg....diagnosed schizoaffective disorder (bipolar type)...don't know what effect this has had on it all.
