To be fair to her, she did try her best to understand me I guess. Even though she did a lot of harm while she was at it. She put up with a lot of my weirdness and really did try to encourage me to get help. She just went entirely the wrong way about it a lot of the time and eventually just gave up when I was in a bad place. I do still miss her from time to time though. Miserable cow that she is. :D

A lot of the places where I spent my teens are now demolished as part of the regeneration of east Manchester. It's weird.
 
No need to say say sorry (again :D )- she was / is a dick, she just did a lot for me that I didn't always appreciate at the time, and I shouldn't forget that.

And yeah, Birmingham has gone through a lot of changes too. I don't have exclusively fond memories of east Manchester (a lot of it was very grim indeed), but to see it disappear entirely just makes you feel old and cuts you off from your childhood.

^ possibly one of my faves too. I think Mozza is generally a twat tbh (LOVED the Smiths, naturally) ... But EDILS is a fucking perfect track particularly as I pretty much live/d 'in a seaside town that they forgot to close down' :) .... Used to love listening to this while cycling down to the beach when I was in one of my keep fit phases ... ace cycling music.

I too was at Reading 93, just to see New Order. That was my first time seeing them, saw them again at Hyde Park, dunno when that was, mid 00's? I was tripping my nuts of at Reading, right at the front. Absolutely superb gig, Sumner looked ten feet tall with a three foot pout. Hooky had his legs spread so wide he straddled continents! After the gig we went next door to see, was it Apollo 440 or was it The Grid..? Some dance act anyway, indoors.

Discovered only once I got the the fest that New Orders set coincided with the last train home. How annoying! I rang my dealer at the time, asked him if we could cab back to his place & borrow some dosh to pay for it. Cost just shy of 100 quid to get back into London. Ouch. Worth every penny though. I then walked along the river, first thing in the morning, still tripping, to get home.

Not known for being that good live, New Order Lol But that set was spot on. The next week Melody Maker was allo upset. New Order finally learn how to play, only to split up! Lmao :D

we had a "cool" music teacher one year, who ditched all the classical shit that no one was into and got us into rock instruments, we all had to drum to this, the basic 4 4 i think its called, it was fun, 2 people in the class turned to have a natural talent for drumming. Eliminitaor is a great album. Another album that was one of my favourites for a long time. This is where rock gets it right IMO, layers and layers that are just so tight and fuckin cool, some of it can be a bit naff, dumb and wanky, but this album was the work of top class proffessionals.

Zodiac Mindwarp reminds you of Motörhead? Fair enough, I guess! :D

Motörhead are far better though, and a little less super-ironic. Though Zodiac could well have been massive had he started a decade or two later (and had people been clever enough to understand).
 
yeah i thought ZM were kind of Motorhead wannabees though they werent taking themselves seriously. Lots gets overlooked Sandy but i think this thread is getting there, it'll never be complete, but if a "man from mars" wanted to know about 80s music I'd direct him to this thread lol.
 
I can see a closer resemblance to AC/DC than Motörhead, but yeah, they followed the sleaze rock template closely enough. Mark Manning is a really talented guy though, and a great writer. It's a shame that it went right over people's heads.
