Music taste 'linked to drug use'

This just in: "Music and drugs combined are awesome"

LOL maybe its cause people who listen to dance tunes go out every weekend spending all there money on drugs and extreme high price tickets..

But in the end it's all worth it. I like to live in my own world, fuck regular life, fuck a 9 to 5 job , I'm told to enjoy every hour, every minute, that's what do on Fridays and Saturdays. Why should i take life so seriously? I just wanna do what i like to do! Be as far from reality, cause i cant stand society. It's my own world i just wanna hear the music.

LETS GO.

(sorry, a bit amped for DEFQON tomorrow :))

"It comes out in the study that, in these types of music, fans score worse in various behaviours, such as criminality, sexual promiscuity and drug use," said Dr Adrian North, who led the research.

Nope, I am not making a pretentious judgement at all.

"The behaviour was linked purely to musical taste in its own right." ...

The report's authors acknowledge that some of these findings are related to age and social class.
I haven't looked at the full text's methods section, but the idea that taste in music has a direct affect on lifestyle independently of the culture that tends to produce it and use it as social currency and a symbol of consensus identity is a stretch. This is just a correlation study, yet the way it's quoted and because of some people's preconceptions it will be interpreted as more.

Weeks ago Oliver Sacks was on the Daily Show (Sacks is a famous neurologist who was there promoting his new book, "Musicophillia.."). Stewart asked Sacks if Hitler and Gandhi could love the same music. Sacks said they absolutely could (doesn't mean music doesn't have any influence, I just like the quote). Sacks also writes in his book about a surgeon into rock music who was struck by lighting and then overcome with an urge to listen to and write piano music...

We strengthen our identities and social ties by listening to music, so we want that music to have some kind of intrinsic power and integrity. It seems like people like to believe music taste means something because it offers a short cut for judging others and to safeguarding the integrity of ourselves. But any intrinsic influence music has on overall lifestyle is probably beyond measure. As I recall, when other factors are controlled for, studies on infants raised with classical music (which studies correlate with IQ) indicate that exposure to a certain type of music alone does little to nothing.

And I liked electronic music years before I actually took MDMA

same here. i even liked electronic music before i tried amphetamine (not long after discovering edm). mdma certainly does help though and i rarely listen to non-edm now.

I would suggest that liking musicals is, in itself, a criminal act.
i concur :D

Here is a contradiction to your "study"

I listened to electronic music (trance) way before I ever knew what "drogz" were

I still listen to electronic music and don't take any "drogz"

The music is what you love, and if you love it, you will love it whether on drugs or not.

Case closed

^ Hey, technically, hasn't like every disney movie ever-ever been a musical? =p

The Wall?

Tommy?

Rocky Horror?

.....And the Reefer Madness Musical was fuckin Tits, so I don't wanna hear about it!

Don't be so quick to judge =p You can take something horrifying like TheSoM, and turn it into something beautiful after all

Ha, I like musicals! Haha, come on, Singing in the Rain is good stuff. And Disney movies when I was little, have to like those.
Guess I'm an outlier. Not my favorite genre, anyway. I think this is a kind of silly study. Of course the music you listen to reflects personal taste and habits. Duh, right? That's why you listen to it.

agreed, I get bitched at for my drug use and my occupation, but fuck it, its fun. I don't want to be a brandy snifter twirling melvin.

Hasn't just about every Disney movie ever made totally sucked?

well most of em =p

Still, stuff like Fantasia, Alice in Wonderland.. Lion king wasnt all that bad I guess.... lol hmmm... slim pickins I guess. I just realized all dogs go to heaven and the land before time weren't disney... hmmm... now that I think about it, not sure they sang in those either haha Just know they were sweet when I was 6 =p

Fantasia kicked ass. Did they sing in Alice in Wonderland? That was my favorite movie when I was a kid. And then some of the really traditional ones from the forties, and, I mean, Snow White came out in '37, that's pretty cool. So not everything Disney created sucked. And some of the stuff they distribute is really good (though unfortunate they get to put their stamp on it).
