Mushy season opener 2006

shorza: I agree on the high grass theory. There seems to be allot of overgrown land around melbourne this year. Good in the fact that it keeps moisture trapped but also makes spotting patches harder

hey guys, i was just wondering if there has been a serious lack of mushies around or if people are just being lazy reporting thier finds? im really interested in hunting and have done my research but im just waiting for this thread to go nuts till i attempt a search as they take a while and i dun wanna spend a day huntin for nothin (happened many times). so yeah just wondering if they are around or if more rain is needed, cheers.

Melbourne recieved only 25% of the average rainfall that usually has in May, so when it starts raining, the mushrooms will start growing. It's certainly cold enough for them now.

All the mushies i have found so far this year have been hidden under grasses... esspecially that clumped blade grass you find near waterways.. hint hint ;)

definatly needs more rain to kick in the season
barely any type of shrooms around but hopefully come winter we'll see plenty

Melb has had some much needed rain the last week or so. But as everyone says, not nearly enough.

All my pathes are dry. I have seen a total of 2 subs so far in patches that yield hundreds.

Snow - Give it a few more weeks.

a bit dry but there's definitely blue cheese in them hills...

Had my first hunt last week and got some nice inner city shrooms...... ran into a random bluelighter as well.

So hello to whoever that was :D

I wish it would start raining in Sydney.

Has anyone had any luck in any areas around southern Syd?
:(

Also, when does the season usually last till? As I've got exams comming up and I'm hoping it will still be on after they're over (3-4 weeks).

Just got home after heavy rains and hit jack pot. We left sunrise and just arrived home with a lazy 300 plus sub's!! :) I'm working on some pic's which I'll post soon. Waiting patiently for killarava2day and steveElektro to arrive then I'll be in business. Post pic's soon.

just wondering but how many subs would it require to get a:

Threshold:
average dose
heavy dose:

(yes i realise it might vary from individual however there must be some consistances to dosing)...

chugs: I find with subs. a:
threshold dose of dry mushrooms is around 1 gram,
an average dose (for me and friends) 3.5 grams,
heavy dose 5.5 grams onward

however everyone responds differently and the potency of the subs can vary greatly so you have to consider you dosage very carefully. I have seen people eat just a few fresh mushrooms and be completly destroyed.

they do vary in potency ALOT.

the smaller ones are MUCH more potent by weight.

fresh = a fair bit more potent. ive had really strong trips on 2-4 small mushrooms!

6-10 small mushrooms generally = strong trip.

ive had different results to mongman's, although most times, a high proportion of my stash ends up being fairly small (beyond the pinning stage tho) specimens.

1 - 1.5 dry grams is usually a fairly strong trip...
2+ would send most people to la la land and beyond.

sub's are definitely 2 to 3 times stronger than your dung dwelling cubensis.

I agree with jimbu.

regarding your differing experience with dry mushrooms, its like I said at the bottom of my post. It all depends on your definition of heavy and how you personally respond to hallucinogenic drugs.
On 5.5 grams your talking complete loss of reality, identity, physical form, language and so forth for a good 200 or 300 hundred years..... ;)

This is a pretty vague theory, but has anyone else noticed a difference around Melbourne between (what i assume are both subs) the tall, slender types that grow among grass and the shorter, stumpier types that grow in woodchips? If so, has anyone noticed a discernable difference between their potencies?

Finally a bit of rain down here in Tassie.

I've been out a few times now and I've finally found some Subs.

Here are some pics:

Ended up grabbing a few hundred. I'll probably grab a couple hundred more and then dry them. Amazing level of blueing on them. A group of mates had some last night and said that they were very potent. I'll post up some more picks if I get any nice photos in the next few days.

I know how to dry them using a fan and damp rid, but can I dry them in a food dehydrator? Or does anyone know any other easy drying method? It would make it a lot easier for me!

Happy hunting! Enjoy your trips!

A dehydrator works very well.

killarava2day - I was under the impression that they are the exact same mushroom, just grown in different conditions. Sub's tend not to grow too tall when out in the open. But when growing next to grass, or in the shade, they will grow taller.

I haven't experienced any large differences in potency.
