Mushy Hunt... is the time nigh?

I live in the ACT, australia.
It has rained heavily for the last three days here, dropping temperatures and raising humidity a little. Today was the first bright, sunny, warmish day since all the rain.

My question is simple - would now be a good time to start looking for mushrooms in the surrounding bushland? I've always thought people said the best time was the first warm day after some good rain, but would just like some confirmation on that.

I know it's not winter, but the conditions seem about right.

Best rule of thumb is that you need to wait till after the next hot day. There will be a few during the rains or even before, but not enough to spend your time for. Basically, what you are looking for is the first hot sunny day after a rain/that night will be the best pickings..

imho its always worth a look around after a few days of rain + high humidity then some sunlight and moonlight is good too.

and when it comes down to it, wondering around in the bush is always awesome

Thats the thing, over here in england to go mushy picking you need 5 minutes of study and your pretty much safe. Theres a couple dangerous things here but nothing that can be easily confused.

All i'm trying to say is picking mushrooms takes some serious balls if your austrlian.

Yep in the Uk it's simple, just go to the local cricket pitches early mornin in October and you get a bag full
