I have three methods for avoiding the nasty taste (I'm pretty susceptible to the taste...I literally gag just looking at them):
1) The Jalepeno Chip Sandwich Method: Just put caps/stems in between a couple of the hard crunchy jalapeno chips (old dutch for my locale). Doritos also work but I find the kettle cooked variety to mask the texture even better. The strong flavour of the chips masks the taste and the crunchiness masks the texture famously.
2) The Yogurt blend: This is my favorite method. Chop up your shrooms as fine as possible. Mix in a spoonful at a time with a cup of any flavour yogurt you like. Just swallow the yogurt as is, don't chew. It sounds gross but you're basically just using the yogurt as a lubricant so you can just swallow without tasting. No taste whatsoever, aside from the yogurt. You can chase with a sip of water to wash down any bits left in your mouth but I usually don't find that necessary.
3) Lemon Juice blend: Chop up, mix with lemon juice or orange juice (this is simply for edibility purposes, not for potentiation purposes though it is a nice side effect). Down the hatch in one go. Might need to add more juice as the mushroom bits get stuck to the side of the glass or whatever.
