Background:
My latest acid trip was a little too intense to my liking. It wasn't a bad trip as such but I felt uncomfortable throughout. I've decided to lay off acid until at least October some time. I've been looking for some 'fun' psychedelic experiences. Meanwhile, mushrooms remained high on the 'to do' list and have been for a while.
I was at my third doof. I hitched a ride from Sydney to the party from a guy named Cam. I thought I didn't know the guy but it turns out he put on the last one I went to. We also went with a guy from Perth named Sven. On the way there, I found a joint in the car. Seeing as Cam doesn't smoke, Sven and I decided to partake in it later.
Upon arrival, I recognised numerous people so I wasn't exactly alone. I also promised to bring back 'something nice' for my friends who couldn't make it, leaving me precious little to spend on enhancements for this party. That ruled out 2C-B.
The Experience:
After a nourishing feast (i.e. instant pasta and a steamed sticky date pudding) the music had just started. Sven lit up the joint I found and we shared it between about four people. It must have been in the car for a while because it was weak as piss.
We were speaking to one of the DJ's over dinner and he told us all about his music, and how it was no longer psytrance as such. His set was at 9 at the prog stage so we went over to listen. It was certainly a new experience. It was like bluesy psychedelic breaks or something. It certainly made another muso, Rob, rethink his own style. I spoke to him about it and explained how anyone's music could do the same to anyone else despite what the creator originally thinks about it. At least that's what seems to be happening with an eclectic mix I threw together without too much thought, but that's another story.
Over the next few hours I travelled back and forth between main stage, prog and the carpark. The main stage was playing hard and dark psy around now. It was pretty cool and once again weed helped me dance harder than most people think it does. Went back to the carpark and met a few travellers and spoke to them for a bit. I was at the stage where I want to be with people but I don't want to talk to them. It's a weird state, being greened out.
Went back to the prog stage and got 'something nice' for my friends back home. Ordered a coffee from the drink stall and drank it to keep me awake. I also enquired about mushrooms and discovered that she also had mushroom caps. She recommended I take two but I could only afford one as I needed money to get home. By now it was about midnight. I took the cap immediately and returned to the car to set up my tent.
It was close to a full moon so I wouldn't need the torch. My friend James (Baker, who wasn't on this trip) reckons full moons have a tangible effect on trips and indeed any emotional state, but I didn't notice. At least I didn't need my torch to set up camp but I didn't notice I almost set up in front of what would be the speedcore stage. I relocated further down.
By the time I set up the tent and got my stuff all sorted, the cap had come up. I didn't feel different but I noticed that my thought patterns had altered slightly. My mind was expanded but not like acid. I also noted a mood lift but not like ecstasy.
I returned to the prog stage. The music there seemed a bit deeper now and I wasn't sure if it was the music or the mushrooms. The fire seemed 'wobblier' than before, as opposed to acid's 'bendiness'. Trees looked more alive. Other than that there wasn't too much visual distortion.
I spoke to a guy named Ben about our chosen professions. He was in IT while I study engineering. He talked about how in every profession there are specialists and the way the specialisations are taught is in isolation to everything else. He believed that it wasn't meant to be like that, and that if they were all taught comprehensively, then everyone would be capable of a lot more. Similarly, he mentioned a unifying mathematical theorem called Synergetics or something. It linked just about every mathematical operation together. I likened it to how most engineering majors at my uni study calculus throughout the course and that I felt this was what he was talking about.
Ok that might sound a bit far-fetched but I thought it was rather profound at the time. In fact I think it still makes sense. Besides, he was on acid and I was on the shrooms.
I went over to the main stage and they were still playing the dark scary shit. Only now it sounded darker and actually scary. This music must have been designed to be heard on mushrooms. I couldn't handle it for very long so I wandered about and bumped into my dealer and her friend. I was given a toke of their joint, which I don't think did much. I should have had more because if I wasn't familiar with altered states I'd swear the cap wasn't working.
I was getting tired around 2pm. Winter doofing really takes it out of you. I returned to the tent and slept. I thought about some of my homework problems and visualised them. The CEV's on mushrooms were like a cross between weed and MDA. It had the creative stimulation of weed and the graphic detail of MDA. I fell asleep and dreamt while still on the shrooms. I don't remember my dreams much but I do remember I had more control over them than I usually do.
Woke up at about 7am, refreshed and ready to get back into the party. I had breakfast and smoked the last of my weed. Again it was weak as piss because it was over six months old. I was just glad to be rid of it.
Not much else happened drug wise. I left the party at 12pm with Rob, caught buses and trains back to Sydney and arrived home at about 7:30pm. (!) I wish I could have stayed longer.
Conclusion:
Mushrooms are just the thing I was looking for. I wanted something fun but not overwhelming. I didn't feel much of an afterglow either. Maybe next time I'll take the two caps instead of just one, because I can tell I'd get a decent trip on two. Hopefully I'll also be able to find my own mushrooms so I can build a stockpile and not worry about what's on the market. Not that that would happen because the dealers would be in the same boat as me.
