I had my first psychedelic experience two days ago. Here is the reports, and some questions for you experts.

I took 1.7g (around 1/16oz) at 2am, in a dark and silent room (in bed, next to my girlfriend who was sleeping, but willing to offer assistance if needed). I mostly kept my eyes closed for the whole trip, which lasted until around 6am, when I finally fall asleep.

Having never taken any psychedelic before (nor any drug, even marijuana), the experience was impressive to say the least. It started 45 minutes after ingestion by beautiful closed eyes visuals, geometric at first, and quickly appeared faces (sad, joyful, crying, laughing, shouting, all of that silently), objects, arts pieces (mostly African), figurative animal representation, decorated temple walls, all of them moving extremely fast. It was impossible for me to see any one of them for more than 2 or 3 seconds, everything was too fast and chaotic, but still beautiful.

So my first question is, is it that fast moving for everyone ? Can you, with some experience, "freeze" the flow ? Look at one in particular in details ?

After that stage, I entered a succession of mini-dreams, each of them lasting no more than a minute, and sometimes less than 20 seconds. I was semi-able to control them. If I were to open my eyes, they would instantly stop, but would restart as soon as I closed them. They would start somehow two dimensional, and quickly become 3D if I were to direct my full attention on them, which was ... very nice. Kind of the dreams you can have when at the frontier between wakefulness and sleep, but with a "stop and reinitialize" button :-)

My second question is, can you learn to direct those ? Or is it preferable to learn to NOT direct, and let your unconscious speak ?

My last experience happened later during the night, and was very touching, completely strange but seemed, at the time, perfectly non frightening and normal: I felt, for 2 or 3 minutes, a partial fusion of my consciousness with the one of my girlfriend, sleeping next to me.

I was totally non prepared for what, but it seemed so natural, it was not scary at all. I was able (or I hallucinated that I was able :-)) to feel what she feels (when awake - not in the sleeping state she was actually in), how she thinks, how it is for her to laugh, and I was seeing the things we were discussing (in that particular 2-3 minutes dream sequence) from her point of view, and from mine at the same time. It was as if I was in my own mind thinking and feeling, and also in her, listening to her thoughts and feeling her reactions to what I said. And vice versa. At the time I felt that I was not "me" anymore but that we were "us", a new entity which was a fusion of our two selves. It was quite beautiful, touching <3 but also confusing, up to the point that I asked to myself:

"Am I (my name), who took mushrooms, and who is feeling (her name)'s mind ? Or am I (her name) who took mushrooms, feeling (my name)'s mind ?"

For several seconds, I was not sure anymore 8o Then I concluded I was me =D

I can quite understand now what people mean by saying they "fuse" with their surroundings. Did it already happen to some of you to fuse with someone who was close by ? Or not close, even ?

I will definitely explore again this incredible plant, now that my fear (of the experience) is greatly diminished. I will probably use a similar dosage for the next trip, because the effects were already quite powerful (even though I had very few open eyes visuals or distortion, compared to what I was expecting). I guess they were that powerful due to the setting, darkness, silence and eyes closed ? I welcome any comments, tips, hints or story that you feel like to share !

Thanks for the report! Sounds amazing! Here are some thoughts....

The psychedelic experience is much more plastic than it appears initially to an inexperienced tripper. There is a lot of room for creativity...your personality and your ideas and beliefs are obviously interfused in the psychedelic imagery you experience...but your consciousness CAN direct the flow of imagery to an extent, especially on moderate doses.

This often results in a feeling of empowerment and I believe represents an archetypal psychedelic trip (something like "The Wizard Trip"). You feel like you can shoot bolts of lightning from your fingers. And, in fact I had a trip on 2CE I think where I did see lightning shoot from my fingers when I thought it.

Psychedelics are amazing!

To a large extent though, deep trips are all about giving up control (or the illusion of control) and releasing into the stream of reality. It is here that you realize there is no fundamental division between yourself and your surroundings. You ARE the world and the world IS you! It is truly an enlightening experience to realize this and is in my opinion the most important lesson that psychedelics can teach you.

Now, to the task of holding onto this realization and implementing it into your daily life (with effects on your interactions with other humans and reality in general): this is a hard task! It is the catch-22 of psychedelics...they seem to promise so much wisdom, power, and vitality but their lessons are SO HARD to hold onto.

Safe travels,

Sounds like a GREAT introduction to the wonderful world of psychedelics (not to mention psychoactives in general)!

So my first question is, is it that fast moving for everyone ? Can you, with some experience, "freeze" the flow ? Look at one in particular in details ?
Most of my CEVs are infinitely complex, constantly pulsating fractals or fractal-like patterns of all colors. Check this lecture out, about how classic CEVs are created in the brain: http://www.archive.org/details/redwood_center_2006_02_14_cowan

It also shows examples of typical CEVs. The CEVs you experienced seem more like dreamy visions than visuals. Visuals being over-processed and thus altered sensory input, and visions being fabrications of the mind, not tripped out interpretations of surroundings.

One thing you'll realize about drugs (and psychedelics in particular) is that everybody's trip is different, beyond the physical action of the drug. My visions (and visuals) tend to move pretty quickly, though through meditation (read: concentrating really hard on not concentrating on anything), they can be better remembered for reflection and slowed for examination. You've got to step outside of your own thought processes and watch them unfold if you want to control them. Mushrooms help me to do this, as does herb.

My second question is, can you learn to direct those ? Or is it preferable to learn to NOT direct, and let your unconscious speak ?
It depends on your objective... are you looking to bring about a change in your ego / behavior, or are you looking to just learn about your unconscious/subconscious processes, or learn about your connection to all things, or... You get the idea. Nobody can tell you what is preferable - that depends on your preference. Personally, I let the visions flow... they are beautiful and I take them as gifts most often. The more you trip, the more you'll understand and feel the mental alterations, which are the real meat of the trip. For me, at higher doses, thinking becomes less and less linear, emotions become more and more intense, and visual/sensory FX matter less and less (despite being more and more dramatic).

"Am I (my name), who took mushrooms, and who is feeling (her name)'s mind ? Or am I (her name) who took mushrooms, feeling (my name)'s mind ?"
What if you were one and the same? Hmm...

Did it already happen to some of you to fuse with someone who was close by ? Or not close, even ?
I've felt some intense preternatural connections with people while on mushrooms. I was really into a girl named Francesca, and ended up invading her dreams so we could go exploring the universe. :!

I've had confirmed telepathic conversations with my friend name Alex, while we were tripping on DXM together. We were both in the fetal position, each of us a mirror to the other, laying on his bed. We swam through a warm, black ocean and shot the shit for a while, then came back. We picked up our conversation where we left off in the ocean when we got back to earth, lol.

I guess they were that powerful due to the setting, darkness, silence and eyes closed ?
I'd say so. Depriving yourself of your senses and taking psychedelic drugs often leads to the manifestation of memories, ideas, and emotions as self-created sensory stimuli which the tripper experiences as potent, realistic visions.

I'm sending you some good vibes for your next psychonautical voyage! =D8o

Hey, awesome report, thanks! It's always nice to hear about someone's beginninhg psychedelic voyages. I am moving this to Trip Reports however, and renaming the thread title to fit the guidelines there.

I am assuming the drug taken was mushrooms judging by your dosage information, even though I don't see where you actually say that. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

It was, sorry for the missing precision. Home grown last summer, kept ever since (dehydrated in the fridge), only had the courage to try them this week :-)

How much would you still considerate to be a moderate dose, in this regard ? 3.5g (1/8 oz ) ?

Ok, more things to try next time. I remember a dream I had when I was around 10 years old, firing fireballs from my hand after too much AD&D (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, not the psychological condition :-) ). Hmmm, fireballs ...

I was not there yet of course, but I had a small glimpse of what an expanded consciousness is like. It's fascinating, and contrary to what I was fearing before the experience, it doesn't seems silly at all now, back in my usual lucid state. It was an hallucination, but something still rings true in it.

I am interested in them to learn about the universe, myself, and to sometimes purely have fun =D .

How can you be sure you were not actually talking during the experiment :-) ? During my trip, I am not sure at all I was, actually, in her mind. I am only sure it looked that way. But ...
