the worst trip i have ever experienced
Warning: some of these things are really nasty
First of all i want to say that this happened back in decmber and i am back tripping again. I had been tripping about once a week at the time and no i do it about once every two weeks, sometimes more often but not usually.
Ok this is how it happened. It was December, maybe the 16th im not really sure. Myself and a few of my friends were going to a "rave" (im not sure if you can rightly call anything in this area a rave but anyways). we had gotten a hotel room nearby the venue and were preparing for the party. I ate a quarter ounce of mushrooms and prepared to make my way to the party. it was at this point that i noticed that my eyes itched a little. I though nothing of it at the time.
Once we arrived at the party, i went and danced for a little while and then went to sit down with some friends. I had eaten the mushrooms about 45 minutes ago and at this point was really blowinbg up with that wonderful mushroom energy that you get on the come up. Anyways my eyes were starting to really hurt at this point and i did my best to tell myself that it wasnt that big of a deal but it was starting to get really hard to ignore. A little time passed and I cant really remember where i was one of my friends and i were in a reasonably well lit area and he told me, "dude, your eyes look really irritated". So i went to the bathroom to investigate and discovered that they did in fact, look VERY irritated. So at this point i have realized that it wasnt just something in my head, that there really was something wrong with my eyes. I went back out and tried for as long as possible to hang out with my friends and enjoy myself, but it was getting worse and worse as time went on.
After maybe a few hours of being there (i wasnt really keeping track of time) it became unbearable. I asked my friend to look at it again. This time it was far worse and he called a few others over to look at it. We went to the3 bathroom to try and rinse my eyes out to see if that helped. It did nothing. This problem was getting out of hand fast. My eyes were in a great deal of pain at this point and i have had several people come up to be and look at me as though i were dying and say, "Dan, you really dont look good, maybe you shouldsee a doctor", and things like that. Comments like that made me wig out. I decided that i no longer needed to be at the party and wanted to go home. I pleaded with several of my friends to try and get them to take me home and most of them didnt want to b/c they were fucked up and had no desire to drive. So i sat and waited until one of them gave in and drove me home. On the way back to my house it became so unbearable that i decided that i wanted to go to the hospital. My eyes were beginning to swell shut. None of this was my imagination at this point either, other people saw the same shit wrong with my eyes as i did and the soreness of my eyes was to extreme to bne imagined. My friend refused to take me to the hospital on account of him not wanting either of us to get in truoble for being on drugs. So we got back to my house and he returned to the party.
I was at this time thoroughly convinced that i was going to die. I felt very weak and frail. When i got to my bedroom. I looked in the mirror (i did the best i coudl to look anyways, my eyes were almost completely swollen shut and were now pussing) and i saw a bulge coming out from my neck. Having seen this, i completely resigned myself to the fact that i was in fact dying and i began to pray (not something i had done since iwas a little kid) that god would forgive me for doubting his existance and let my die quickly so as to avoid any further pain. Not long after this, it became completely impossible for me to see. I was crying and as nasty as it sounds pussy shit was practically pouring from my eyes. This continued for hours until i was seriously considering doing something to myself to end the pain. Eventually, i began to come down. My eyes were still very irritated and swollen shut but i stopped thinking i was going to die. I got up and looked in the mirror, the bulge on my neck had dissapeared (it was never really there) and ifelt considerably stronger. I did my best to clean out my eyes (ever so gently) so that i could see more easily. After i had come all the way down it was morning and i had my dad take me to the urgent treatment center. The doctor there said that it was the worst case of pink eye he had ever seen. He wrote me a prescription and i began to get better within a few days.
Ok it may seem like this was obviously pink eye from the start but the symptoms didnt start until i was tripping and I couldnt think of anything else tht it could be except something to do with the mushrooms. Nobody else had said anything about pink eye either so it didnt even occur to me. On top of all this, i felt other symptoms like that bulge in my neck and feeling very weak. Apparently the mind is such a pwerfull thing that i experienced a few "somatoform" (a term that was explained to me later by a freind) type symptoms because i was freaking out so hard.
Now i have wigged out before on acid when i was actually tripping alot harder than this, but the fact that there was really something wrong made this way worse than any acid freak out could ever be unless the same shit happened on acid. Freaking out on acid was just feeling overwheled and scared, this was a near death experience. The other thing was that it really caught me off guard. I use mushrooms all the time and i didnt think it was possible to freak out on them. I was very very mistaken. The next time i tripped after this i freaked out again, but eventually i worked my way back to feeling comfortable with mushrooms and drugs in general. I think the second time i freaked out was a response to the first time because i hadnt really dealt with it.
The moral of the story? there is no moral, as much as i pleaded with god and tried to bargain for my life by swearing that i would never again do any drug or anything bad, here i am doing the same shit again al the time. Besides, there is nothing that could have possibly been done to prevent this, it came out of no where. Pinkeye doesnt usually take over your eyes like that in a matter of hours, this was a fluke.
If there is a moral at all, i guess its just respect your drugs, i seriously underestimated how much you could freak out on mushrooms. But then again, i would have never feaked out in the first place if my eyes hadnt suddently become severly infected.
