Mushroom Season 2011 UK / Ireland / Anywhere else

Go out picking some yime with someone who knows what they look like in all their forms, they can be quite a dark brown in wet weather, can be almost white, pale cream after a dry spell...

Just one session with an experienced picker will be eough for you to be pretty confident in going out yourself on the hunt.

There's no amount of annotated "tips", or even photos , that can give you the confidence and certainty to be able to go out and successfully pick for yourself.

There are a few isolated ones around here. But leave them for a while. Give them chance to grow and drop their spores for an even better crop :) The best time is past the autumn equinox on the 21st Sept. That and the conditions of cloud/moisture/temp. Wait till the end of September, after a few cloudy, wet and cool days and you'll be awash with them.

Apart from the odd isolated flush in August the pookie season doesn't late september in this part of the world. The same places arent good year in year out, they may be highly productive fields for years and then nothing. I have heard a million theories about what makes a good season and a good field, but when it comes down to it, nobody knows anything apart from they will not grow in bone dry or water saturated fields. A practiced eye can tell if a particular field has potential to be a good picker, but many a ditch was jumped and jeans ripped on thorny wire by the Pookerati going into promising looking field only to return with empty bags.

used to get thousands on the edge of the fairway on the golf course were we lived .
they should be coming out now. brings back memories =D

Already had over 150 odd from our usual field... due to a torrential downpour then a day of sun, so September is gonna be a gold mine :)

I havent been able to pick the last two seasons but I did the previous 25, we used to have names on the fields, there was wally burkes, two pillars, sevenbridges, coney island road; compass hil, and best of all the piggery, a ten minute walk and you pick thousands, nearly fill a plastic bag. Sadly or maybe gladly , its houses now, I nearly lost my mental health to that field.
A sunday autumn picking pookies, a few pints of porter to wash them down, ahhhh the pyschedelic pastoral.

Just had a messsage from my mate who is up fishing in the Scottish islands, he's found a few fields with shrooms in.

Does anybody know any places actually in Bristol worth having a butchers? Got some free time but no transport to get outta bris to my usual spots! Any info would be appreciated! :D

Might go on a hunt some time this week, its been pissing it down for 3 days, though it has been fairly warm. Worth a look round if I've got nothing better to do though I suppose.

Mate has now found lots of fields, Skye, and a couple of the smaller nearby islands he's been chugging round on his boat....lol, the fishing seems to have been put on hold for a couple of days :D

A grand picture posted. Oh, precious memories.

I'm in London man...proper sucks literally like a needle in a haystack...probably head out to tunbridge wells or somewhere like that to have a lil mooch about.

^wait a month or so down there

Yeah I'm near London ( Windsor) and the ground doesnt look like it will be ready for a few
weeks. Not for liberty caps anyway.
I went to see a friend of mine in a psychiatric ward the other day. The unit is surrounded by
beech trees and right now dozens and dozens of Amanita Muscaria mushrooms.
