How would Customs be likely to see it though?
Would they just assume the worst and send me a letter, or would they go all out?

???

There is nothing illegal about spores dude, no problem there

If Mr Plod finds you growing psychedelic fungi you will be fuggeted though

You are only getting psilocybe spores to look at under a microscope so you have nothing to worry about :)

Although it's not impossible, I doubt they were P. semilanceata

They'd just be P. subaeruginosa which can be prolific in pine forests. The high acidity of pine needles isn't the best environment for this species and on average, pine subs are a fair bit weaker than those from eucalyptus forests and garden beds.

Yeah i did end up talking to my mate and he told me the ones... were Psilocybe cubensis:) ... do you mind if i send you a PM mate?

just read, in my local paper 2 English backpackers got caught with 650g of mushrooms in balingup poor buggers, sounds like there a few around also a warning to be carefully

Psilo (or anyone for that matter), I have just two questions for you...

When does the season normally start rounding down in Melbourne?
And is it better to be looking in places that are a higher or lower altitude?

It is already starting to back off, the peak is in May and up to mid June

They will still be widely available up until late July and finds are possible until September, but mostly gone by August

Altitude is good for early season hunting, by late season it's just too cold at height and the subs will be found closer to sea level

most people probably don't know of anywhere else, balingup is just the most talked about

It is for this reason that people should research all they can about anything they decide to put into their body.

If more people read the information available on psilocybe subaeruginosa, they would realize that they don't just grow in one well known area.

I remember my first pick in my teens. We went to one of the best known locations in my area and only found about 50. After a little research to help weed out all the bullshit old wives tales that I was being told, I managed to find multiple patches in untouched locations.

I guess a lot of people like to be sheep and just do as others do, hence these backpackers going to Balingup and getting busted.

If I were them, I would have used the cooking show excuse... "Officer, aren't these the same mushrooms that Jamie Oliver was using on his show last night?"

Isnt the popularity of Balingup because its the closest part of that kind of habitat to the metro area? South of there looks like it would be just as good and they have all kinds other interesting edible non psychedelic fungi aswell. Does anyone know if picking these is forbidden? I think there is some kind of native chanterelle that grows down at Pemberton.

I was just about to ask if anyone has seen the police down there as per usual. Looks like it is the same as ever.

balingup isnt that close to say perth, but if uve driven that far anyway why not go a little further its lovely country round there and a nice drive anyway

For peace of mind and at the cost of only a bit more petrol, it is well worth going the extra distance. It's also great fun finding untouched locations that are littered with subs :)

The fungi is free and the fines/record for getting busted would suck balls

If you do go to Balingup, I recommend leaving the comby van at home and wearing a suite. The feds tend to leave the well presented alone ;)

just had my first mushy trip for the season, and oh my its good to be back on it hehe. had about 15shrooms and the visuals was intense as! Picked locally from the hills area of adelaide yo.

Well with the weather in Melbourne in the last few days should have given the season a nice boost before it starts to die off! Happy hunting all! :D
