Mushroom Growing Mythology?

Was talking about growing mushrooms with someone who must-have heard this in an anti-drug discussion in high school: He said U could acidently grow a poisonous mushroom while growing psilocybin. I essentially called him a liar saying, "I don't believe that, everything is sterilized, if anything, U might get botulism on the shrooms."

I'd hate to hafta apologize to him. I'm right, aren't I?
 
Yes you are right. You cannot possibly accidentally grow a poisonous mushroom if you grow silly-psy-bins. Worst that can happen is if they rot because you didn't sterilise everything properly but you can't turn it from a totally non-toxic species to a poisonous one unless you are very talented indeed :D
 
You are right....all of this anti drug bullshit really starts to get to me, as it goes against all things concerning logic and reason. If you have cubensis spores you will grow cubes...if you have portabella spores you will grow portabella...they never warn you against growing edible shrooms. That would be like planting corn in a sterile place and some how coming up with a poisonous berry in its place. shit is just stupid the amount of ignorance that is spread through drug war propaganda.

sorry for the rant, it just wears on me after a while
 
Um something can happen that can cause someone to have a seizure on them but I don't remember what.
 
Shrooms do indeed slightly lower the seizure threshold - many psyches do but mostly not by a great deal and that doesn't make them poisonous. And you'd have to be pretty prone to seizures to be affected really. It is certainly worth noting for anyone in that situation though.
 
Things can go wrong with growing such as molds and bacteria and those can cause nasty side effects such as seizures and vomitting and other bad things, but its the same if you have rotten mushrooms or rotten chicken. It's basically poisoning but it has nothing to do with the species of mushroom or the psilocybin content.

and yes they do lower the seizure threshold slightly but so do a plethora of legal drugs such as Wellbutrin or Adderall as well as countless others that are prescribed to anyone who asks
