mushroom grow kits

Was just thinking about starting a grow myself, but don't know how much money/work is involved. I'm really sensitive to mold and would hate if I exposed myself during a botched shroom grow lol.

shroomery is the first place I looked, but threads on grow bags always end up with people saying "just use the tek"

I can't use the tek. It's a lot of things to get togerther and i'll struggle to keep it hidden. It'd also have to be all thrown away at the end of the year so the bag is the way to go for me.

I'd be growing for use between me and 2 friends, as I don't like to trip solo. Has anyone got experience with these and knows an average yield? From other websites i'm getting 14-30g dried, which would be brilliant if true but these are numbers quoted on the mycobag websites, so obviously biased.

Yield is affected by substrate composition, strain used, growing conditions, whether or not you get contams, whether or not you use a casing layer.... what I'm saying is there is no way to really tell ahead of time. But as previous posters have said, you can buy presterilized mycobags online and thus skip most of the tek. Just inoculate w/your spore syringe and have patience and do an in vitro grow. Good luck.

Yeah skip the kit, it can have really varied results that are better controllable when you just do it yourself. I bought one once of Golden Teachers (they are AFAIK all Cubensis types so it doesnt really matter which one you choose) and it got green mold all over it before I could harvest anything. And the things are damn expensive!

If you are sure you will only do it once (which is IMO a fallacy of a thought because with many things I see worth in, that worth will remain and I will just like to do it again, like growing) then a kit might be okay.
But you are better off just getting filter-boxes and spores and stuff. You have to be a bit of a DIY-er to make a glovebox and stuff but it's not that much work. I just don't think it's one of those things to do half-assed.

Growing them with own material that I can upgrade over time is one of the coolest things/hobbies I have ever taken up. Sometimes I am too lazy to do anything with it for months, I have plenty to spare now anyway... but one of these days I will be growing albino's and stuff, only the filterboxes I ordered have not arrived at all!! And its been quite long.

I know all have said skip the kit. I am also one of those.
However, if you look at shroomery, there are some people with good yields on growkits. Soem even reported 300g fresh from one kit alone. thats a LOT. and he was jsut reporting a growlog. It was however quite the kit, illegal in most countries (it was already germinated i think). Generally though dont be expecting more than 15-20g dried from one normal kit. Some other parameters factor in but you should be fine.

There is also the inVitro tek, which grows the mushies in the jars directly, quite easy to hide, very stealthy.... you could also look into that one as it requires practically no intervention.
