mushroom grow kits

was thinking of purchasing a mushrom grow kit but have no experience in using these i was wondering if anybody can give me any tips on using these. anybody got any recomendations of the best ones to use?

i'm looking more for ones that are very quick and easy to get me started. %)

generally speaking grow kits are about as simple as they come. just follow the instructions and you'll be fine (this usually means watering something for a few weeks). Cant give you more details as tehre are a few types of grow kits out there but like i said, all pretty simple.

Actually, you might even want to start growing them yourself to alleviate some of the boredom :P
 
thanks for advice mate. i just wanna try something quick and simple for time being i'll do the growing myself maybe in the future =D

so how effective are the grow kits?
 
Yeah keeping everything sterile is the key.For my first grow I watched a video series called "Lets grow mushrooms!" on youtube, which was pretty helpful. I dont have any experience with the kits though, I just aquired the spores and put everything else together myself.
 
My friend has success using the bags of wildbirdside that come sealed with a self sealing port on them. It comes sterile, you just innoculate the substrate with your spore syringe and wait arround a month , then take out the bag and open it up and pour it out into your fruiting chamber. then in about a week you have a ounce of dried mushrooms (after you dry them of course) and then each week after that you can get close to an ounce for a few more weeks.

Atleast, thats what my friends situation has been in the past, he usually gets about 4 flushes off each batch before he gives up to contamination etc.
 
I'd recommend foregoing the "kit" method. Spore suppliers are reliable and mason jars (etc.) are cheap. If you ever want to do casings or anything, it will help to start there and know what you're doing.
 
i'm looking at getting a mycobag, I don't want to go all out and buy all the kit items required as i'm living in student accom so need to be discreet. Also when I move out at the end of the year those things would have to go with me, and could be hard to explain to family.

I like the convenience of growing it in a bag for one time use, but like OP i'm not 100% sure what to go for

Can someone actually give advice on the topic, instead of talking about the harder methods? :)
 
^^^ I'm with you dude. Like the OP I'm also looking for help on how to start growing my own shrooms and so far this thread is a dud lol.

Any website recommendations? I just want to know the easiest way possible wheather it's grown them on my own (I have a decent backyard) or purchase a kit. Either way I'd like to be pointed in a direction on where I can get info on doing either.

as long s it comes in a sterile bag with a self sealing port, it should be fine.

I recomend wild birdseed, but im sure there are all sorts of other types you can try.

My friend had great success with these, even better success than when he started from scratch. When he started from scratch he would almost ALWAYS get some kind of contamination before they fruited.

Also, one time one of his batches from the presealed bag got contaminated (after he openned the bag to fruit the fungus) and he poured water from a nearby stream onto the fungus, and they got healthy again. Probably a fluke situation, but I thought it was worth noting.
 
Thanks for help guys! So with these grow kits how long on average you got to wait for fully grown shrooms?
 
I used the mason jar tek and waited several weeks for the jars to become fully colonized, and I believe another couple of weeks to grow and harvest a couple flushes.Probably 2 months in total I assume it would be the same or quicker with the premanufactured kits
 
Following a BRF tek from shroomery can definitely yield great results if you are patient... I don 't really know anything about that though. ;)
 
Purchase a mycobag and a spore injection of the strain of mushroom you like, although check it cultivates in room temperature. After this inject it into the mycobag, throw it into a cupboard and leave it for 3-4 weeks and you can find yourself with a lovely bag of mushrooms. It's as simple as that, although only useful for a personal use stash of mushrooms.

Cheers dude yeah i'm only growing for personal use so that would suit me. Although I would plan on sharing with people 3 max do you think it would be enough for this many people?
