Mushroom Grow Kit Questions

i injected 5ml of spores 17days ago and put it on the top shelf in my airing cupboard.
There isnt any white mycelia yet and it looks almost identical to how it was 17days ago.

1. How long does it usually take to be fully white? (colonised). The website said 20-30 days.

2. Roughly just how long does the overall project take from start to finish?

3. What is the average amount of mushrooms you get when the final result/s is ready?

4. Do you think I should put it at the bottom of my airing cupboard (closer to the boiler) so it is warmer?

I'd appreciate your answers as it would really help me.

I've changed the name of your thread (and your previous thread) cos the kit you are using is the same name as the vendor who sells them so kinda saucy. Mines inoculated, been 12 days in cupboard, complete darkness at 28Degrees C and only just showing tiny bits of white mycellium here and there, it can take up to 2.5 - 3 weeks sometimes for the substrate to be fully colonized.
Last time with B+ Cubensis it took 1.5 months from inoculation untill about 2nd or 3rd flush.
Not sure how big of a harvest but be sure once the pinheads form to cut the bag away from the cake all around the sides, so the mushies can come from the top & sides also for bigger yield, which is not stated to do in the instructions..

Shit! I jus got my mini kit and b+ spores today.

Im a tad worried about being able to keep the mycelium at the right temp.

be patient.. it takes time for the spores to fully colonize. Though BL is a great resource, I think shroomery might be a better place for grow kit questions.

depends on a lot of factors. substrate, temp, inoculation media...etc

it depends on what kind of grow you are doing. the larger the substrate the longer to colonize (unless you have a lot of spawn)

so many factors involved that no one can tell you. mostly relating to your substrate and it's nutrients, air flow and temperature.

i use what's called a tub-in-tub incubator. (TiT) search for this on the shroomery for info on how to design one. it's simple and cheap and holds a boatload of spawn. it's essentially a smaller tub submerged in a larger tub of water (usually chlorinated to prevent algae) with an aquarium heater at the bottom to keep the water a steady temp thereby transferring heat to the smaller tub holding the spawn.

What strain of cubensis are you growing? If it's B+ you should be seeing white mycelium in 20-30 days if your temperature is ok.

As for how long it takes in all, using certain strains like amazonian it can take 2-3 months to get a crop. Most strains should be starting to pin within 6 weeks tho.

can you store them without them losing potency? Can you put them in the freezer and use whenever you want to trip (monthly for example)

Drying loses some potency, about 25%. However you can't store fresh mushrooms for more than 5 days, then they need to be dried or eaten.

If kept airtight in a freezer, almost indefinetely. However they must be dried cracker dry, so that there's absolutely no moisture in them.

Yeah it's better to store them dry, if you dry them correctly I don't think they lose any noticeable potency. Then store them in a glass jam jar (plastic jars let more air through) in the freezer and they'll keep for years. I think i've got to 4 years just as potent as the day they were stored.

Grow kits are a waste of time and money, so that was your first mistake.

Assuming the "kit" was based on the PF Tek mix in pint jars, they can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks from inoculation to full colonization.

Drying, even with a dehydrator @ 125'F, does not damage potency in any way, let alone destroying 25% of the actives 8)

I recommend reading (not posting) more at the Shroomery if you are really interested in the hobby, but you'll get flamed for even mentioning a kit so fair warning

Yes it does. Anyone who has tried both dried and fresh mushrooms from the same batch of an isolated strain can testify to this.

Psilocin degrades quickly at the drying process, due to contact with oxygen. Of course if you use more advanced drying processes such as desiccants and dehydrators then you'll have less degradation.

Also, species with a low psilocin content such as semilanceata will lose less potency at drying. Then again species such as cubensis where half the alkaloids are psilocin, lose more.

It is known that drying in presence of oxygen (fan drying) will destroy 50% of psilocin content and 20% of psilocybin content. For a species like cubensis this amounts to 25% loss of total potency. Using an advanced drying method can reduce this loss but you will still lose 15-20% of the potency.

If you don't believe me try eating some fresh mushrooms. They will blow your mind...
