Hi,

I was thinking of making mushroom chocolates, and storing them in the freezer. How long can they be stored in the freezer?

i read somewhere that chocolate lessens the effects of mushrooms, not sure if that is true or not but worth mentioning.

How are you going to make the chocolates , you have got me fascinated now, just dip them like strawberries :)

I wouldnt want to store them in the freezer longer than a week but thats just me, everytime I have some im afraid of it going bad even though I seal them up really well, so I try to eat them quickly dont want them to mold or melt or any suprises like that. Iv had really good fudge chocolates if you make them right theyll be bomb and use good tasting fudge itll taste really good aswel. Iv been really enjoying the lemon tek method it ripped me a new one first time trying it, if you havent tried it I recommend giving it a go just once ill always eat them this way now

Take it easy

My plan was to put em through a coffee grinder. Then put between 1 - 1.5g in each chocolate. Probably do them in molds. Still not too sure. I gotta buy some molds and some chocolate. However, I want to make sure they will stay good if I do this. I don't particularly want to rush eating the mushrooms. I thought that maybe they would be fine chilling in chocolate in the freezer. maybe not. I gotta do some more research. Maybe I'll make half of my stash into chocolates then store the rest with some other method. I gotta check out the mushroom storage thread.

I'd say they will not lose any potency within 6 months, based on recent experience. Can't speak for longer. A gram and a half should be perfect for each chocolate and I definitely recommend using the coffee grinder and blending the chocolate thoroughly for obvious reasons. Maybe it's just that the chocolates I've had recently were made with really good mushrooms, but I've always found it surprising how nicely I can trip off of the amount in one chocolate. I've heard something about how the tyramine (MAOI) in chocolate increases the effects, but I could be wrong.

Tyramine is not an MAOI. Tyramine is the amino acid that one must avoid if one is taking irreversible MAOI drugs like Parnate, because it creates an overabundance of dopamine in the body when the MAO enzymes are disabled.

Chocolate is an excellent carrier for mushrooms because chocolate does NOT have MAOI activity to any appreciable level. Mushrooms should keep their potency (within 80% of original strength) for at least one year in the freezer, regardless of the form (whole mushrooms, powder, honey, or chocolate).

My personal favorite storage form for mushrooms is in honey. Simply grind the dry fungus up and add to a jar of warm honey. Stir in a teaspoon of ascorbic acid (vitamin C crystals), teaspoon of ground ginger, and teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Freeze or refrigerate as necessary. One teaspoon of the mixture usually has about 1.5g of mushroom material in it (obviously depends on the ratio of fungus to honey that you used), and dissolves fairly quickly in a mug of hot water for "instant" mushroom tea with flavorings already added! Or lick a spoonful like a lollipop if you enjoy the flavor of ginger and cinnamon. If you don't like the flavor, the cold honey forms a lump that is easily swallowed like a pill.

just watch your dosage. I have always been in a world after eating chocolates. But, as said they stay fresh for a long time. I ate one found like two years later and wonderfully lost it.

I had my "ego death" trip on mushrooms by mixing them with "Raisinettes" as a chaser. lol

I don't think it was the candies fault though.

I wouldn't say chocolate lessens the effect of mushrooms though, I tripped hard. Eyeballs and monsters and slimy goo and crazy bad feelings.
Felt great! lol

Thanks for the info guys. The honey method seems pretty good. My friend who gave me the booms mentioned it, and spoke highly of it as well.I think I'll probably still go with the chocolate method though. I think it would be easier to transport a couple of chocolates rather than honey.

Also, I think I am going to individually dose out each chocolate, rather than stir a whole ounce into the chocolate then put chocolate in each mold. I would prefer to be precise. I'll probably play with this later this week. I gotta go buy some molds.

Thanks again.

Enjoy!

if anyone has a recipe for making shroom chocolates please pass em on! making molds with fudge sound mouth watering right now!
