im coming back from a trip right now and my neck and shoulders hurt so much im tempted to take a valium.. but i really dont like taking benzos. do other people have this problem? if so, how do you deal with it? i feel like it sort of ruined part of the trip because it prevents me from feeling fully relaxed.

I'm pretty sure it's a normal occurrence for everyone, I usually get real bad neck pain's and random muscle spasms when i take LSD.

As for dealing with it, i just ignored it and they seemed to go away. As for the spasms though, i get them every now and then even when I'm sober...But i doubt that's from using LSD..

its just that all the muscles in my neck and shoulders are really tense and i cant get them to relax. so its pretty uncomfortable.

After the peak my face gets really sore, i think its from so much smiling/laughing.
I just start to feel so physically and mentally drained towards the end of a big trip with friends...dont know if this is common either or what?

One solution that I've found to the muscle tension from acid is Tiger Balm. It's this mentholated muscle rub that is very good at relieving tension. Not to mention it feels INTENSE when you're tripping!

I usually get rid of the residual muscle aches from trips with a long hot shower, then maybe some kratom, or sometimes a benzo if I have 'em, or if not either of those then maybe some pod tea, and definitely a heating pad almost every time too. Also, if you prefer baths, an epsom salt bath (dump like 4-7 lbs of salt in the bath) is AWESOME to get rid of muscle tension. If you can't sit in yer tub so that yer neck is submerged, then keep a small towel soak in the water and salt and keep it on yer neck, refreshing the towel with hot water every few mins. Really helps a lot.

Yeah to the epsom salt bath suggestion. Using several pounds is ideal, but even a few cupfuls will make a difference and help a lot. Baths and showers feel great while tripping (or afterwards) anyways and will do a lot to help release the muscle tension.

this is pretty common. A lot of people tense up a bit while on LSD. A muscle relaxer would probably be your best bet for pharmalogical relief, but if you've got someone who could give you a massage that would probably be better. The soaking in the bath advice is probably a good idea as well.

Not that this is a help now, but I find that doing some yoga, especially focusing on the back, during the come up part of the trip eliminates any muscle tension later. In my subjective experience, I feel like lots of energy is released into the body starting from the lower back, and doing some yoga early in the trip gets it circulating through my entire body. Times where I have not done this, it felt like this energy accumulated in places like my neck and bothered me a bit afterwards.
I am just describing a feeling btw I dont mean to talk in pseudo science.

Tbh I've never gotten any real physical pain from a trip (that i can remember) except i got a cramp in my neck one time that made me unable to move my head lol. I do feel mentally tired after though :P I once spent a few good hours trying to figure out a rubiks cube during a peak and afterwards I wanted to die.

Maybe the LSD is heightening your proprioception so that you are concious of the tension that is there all the time and which is part of your habitual muscle use. See "Alexander Technique".

Magnesium glycinate is exactly what you want. Most people are deficient in this mineral and I think LSD (and certain other drugs) highlights this. Magnesium deficiency causes muscle tightness.

All in your head, muscle tension means you are holding on to something you shouldnt be. Meditate and try to relax, maybe find what it is your subconscious is having a hard time forgetting, or maybe you forgot that you forgot something important

That's so funny that you meationed muscle tension when comin down from an LSD trip. I was looking up the same thing and found out that LSD does in fact cause muscle tension...mine lasted 2 days after the comedown

+1

The magnesium oil works pretty well too. It actually absorbs better through the skin. Skip the pharms just use magnesium.

Personally I've never had neck or shoulder pain but I often find i clench my jaw a lot when tripping. To ease the residual pain from that I just try to keep it slack as much as possible and massage the area periodically. Maybe you can apply that to your pains and it might help a bit.
