Muscimol ingestion

Muscimol, the active ingredient in Amanita muscarina, is available for purchase from some chemical warehouses. I was wondering if anyone has tried ingesting it in its isolated, pure form? Are the effects similar to that of ingesting the mushroom? Any tips on dosage? Thanks.

Muscimol can be quite toxic if you eat too much. I think amanitas have other stuff in them too, so it wouldn't emulate the amanita experience.

Yes, it is true that A. muscarina contains other compounds, but not in high amounts and muscimol is the primary psychoactive ingredient. Ibotenic acid is found in significant quantities in the mushroom, but it is not psychoactive. In fact, it's converted upon ingestion or through the drying process into muscimol!

I've heard plenty of bad experiences with the mushroom. This, combined with it's variable potency makes me hesitant to mess around with it myself.

So, I'm really interested in trying this compound in its isolated, pure form where I can be sure of purity and dosage. Hopefully one of you out there has tried it and can clue me in so I know what to expect!

Bumped

since I plan on making muscimol from ibotenic acid that I have, want to keep the thread alive.
Muscimol itself isn't really toxic though is it?

I wonder if there are any experience reports with the pure compound at all?

^ good questions both.

I think I remember seeing places selling a very expensive pure muscimol liquid somewhere once... no idea if it is still around or if it worked... never did spot any reports about it. Sure was tempted. Anyone ever hear of anyone who tried that approach? Would be interesting to hear how it went, what it was like.

Muscimol is a very potent GABA(A) agonist and thus can definitely be toxic, although I do believe the therapeutic index is quite forgiving, looking at the dose that is psychoactive.
The main problem when tripping on pure muscimol is that benzodiazepines, barbiturates and most other sedatives will potentiate its effect plus increase the risk of toxic effects.
However, this only plays a role should you be totally freaking out or having a bad trip in a public situation.

Amanita's also contain small amounts of muscarine; there is some debate if this contributes to the psychoactive experience.

I have also heard about the applying of muscimol to the skin.
This should produce effects similar to ingesting the mushrooms, but with less discomfort.
The downside is it's very hard to accurately dose when applying a solution to your skin.
It's really a witch-thing I believe, dates back from the Middle Ages in Europe, where Amanitas are abundant.
