Munchies on the cheap

Not to be confused with the Cooking thread this is all about pre packaged munchies. I know some people can get pretty creative with the barest of pantries and come up with great munchie cures. This is for when we are just too stoned to even think about using appliances let alone sharp objects.

I would like to know what pre packaged ready to eat munchies people are eating. Preferable toward the cheap end of the scale, i don't want to read about how you love scoffing Beluga Caviar on mini toast.

Some generic items are crap. Taste and texture are nothing like the original and are often inedible. I'd like to know which ones are NOT. What el cheapo supermarket own brand items do you think are on par with or even better than the expensive brand name items. If you have tried something exceptionally crap then put in a warning too but only if you think its totally inedible not just not to your liking.

Here's my input on the topic

1. Arnotts Scallywags (ex Gollywogs) and Ice cold milk
2. Woolworths home brand Snakes in the 400g pack (bargain at $2.65)
3. Woolworths generic Cheese and Bacon Balls (just as good as cheetos)
4. Coles generic Chicken shapes (masses of chicken flav and only $1.20)

Thanks, enjoy sitting back on the couch, off ya chops and munching out.8o

P.S If you put in a price of something put the normal price not sale price please

Pasta is a great one, it's cheap to get some pasta and you can make your own sauce adding whatever you wish - great for when your high hitting the munchies. It's cheap too or else you'll most likely have some and you can make as much as you wish.

^^ lol I lived on these mie goreng noodles for basically 2 years while studying, even made a fake website about them.

Fav munchies are :

Squirms (natural confectionary company and usually 2 for $5 at Coles individual non sale price $2.60)

Licorice (price varies)

Humbugs (long lasting and usually $2 a pack)

Is there seriously a fucking fried egg in that packet?

Most of those instant noodles use Palm Oil so I stay away from them because i'm kinda on that trip right now.

Not saying these noodles have Palm Oil, I have no idea, but I am stinging to find out about the egg situation.

There was an obituary in The Economist a year or two ago about the Japanese guy who invented dried noodles. They called him a revolutionary culinary pioneer. Serious business.

Haha there's no egg in there. They're pretty much two minute noodles except you put the flavour in after you've poured the water out of the bowl and they taste fucking divine. Like super good.

When I was rocking centre link I used to eat mi goreng on toast everytime I was hungover.

Not eating Mi Goreng now I eat healthily is one of my biggest regrets in life. Mi Goreng lamentation on this overcast Spring day...

My wife cooks those noodles for an afternoon snackl except she adds beef and vegetables, fish sauce and oyster sauce, tastes great.

Carrots and mayo... cheap , quick and tasty.

oh shit me to to tears=D i'm stoned and couldn't have been bothered cooking tonight so i had some of these. they're definitely the bees knees of noodles - i've only got 8 packs in my cupboard now:(. even adding in some extra freshly stir fried veges, an actual egg and some chicken makes for a half decent, half assed meal that extremely light on the pocket.

i really wish i cooked something now:\

Wouldn't you be better off just going to the local take away? For $7-$9 you can get a decent noodle meal or curry. I know its more than the $2 or $3 or whatever that shit costs but in relative terms - whats 4 bucks, really?

Its not like that will be the difference between poverty and a life on easy street. Plus, in most cases you can possibly split the meal over 2 meals/days/evenings etc.

I think you're underestimating the seraphic, flavoursome, awesomeness of Mi Goreng Eggman, try 'em! Plus you can get 4 packs for a few dollars.

i can't eat or even look at noodles any more...gotta pay homage to them though, i would have never survived my years as a drug addict without them. they cost $0.15 a packet for the shit ones in the UK and i once made it an entire month on $5 eating them for every single meal.

thank fuck those days are over :)

Reading through a couple of these posts, in particular the idea of eating noodles consistently for a month reminds me of the worst diet ever.

When I was in first or second year at uni one of my friends was in a share place with a guy whose core diet consisted of no name brand frozen meat pies and/or frozen party pies. His beverage of choice was a no name cola or lemonade.

With the exception of the rare occasion where by some kind sole would offer up something different, this guy ate this stuff day in day out until a few weeks into the second semester when he got really ill.

He went to the GP who after a few tests remarked proudly that this guy was the first patient he had ever had who may have scurvy!
