'Mr. Nobody'

Genre: Sci-fi/ Romance/ Art-house
Directed by: Jaco Van Dormael
Starring: Jared Leto, Rhys Ifans

Just finished watching this and I absolutely loved it. I was blown away. It's one of the most ambitious films I've seen in a long time. Reminds me of Synechdoche, New York and Eternal Sunshine. Some incredibly moving moments, beautiful cinematography, great dialogue.

Highly recommended.

Storyline
NSFW:

Nemo Nobody leads an ordinary existence at his wife's side, Elise, and their 3 children until the day when reality skids and he wakes up as an old man in the year 2092. At 120, Mr. Nobody is both the oldest man in the world and the last mortal of a new mankind where nobody dies anymore. But that doesn't seem to interest or bother him very much. The only questions that preoccupy him in the present is whether he lived the right life for himself, loved the woman whom he was supposed to love, and had the children whom he was meant to have... now his purpose is to find the right answer

^Can we spoiler that?

(I find knowing the plot of a film seriously detracts from my enjoyment.)

Does nobody :))) else love this film?

Seriously. Take some drugs and watch this.

It's fucking gold.

I wanted to bump this thread because this 2009 sci-fi film only recently got a U.S. distributer. "Mr. Nobody" must be fairly exclusive and in high demand because Amazon is charging $7 just to rent it digitally, and you can't even rent the DVD version through Netflix. The delays and money grubbing B.S surrounding the film, which has apparently grown into a cult phenomenon in the interim, are demonstrative of why people say fuck it and download movies illegally.

I see why TheDeceased compared it to "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Synechdoche, New York" above, but it's in no way derivative. It tells the story of the choices in love made by the last mortal human, who is able to perceive outside of time from a "Many Worlds" metaphysical perspective where each major decision branches into a parallel life. As overly ambitious as that sounds, it does a fine job of pulling it off.

On Netflix Instant now. Ranked #2 in popularity, currently, not surprisingly.
