Ugh
It was a not so brief recess, as the members of the court filed back in one by one with their tummies filled with fast food and brown bag lunches.

"The court is now in session" bellowed The Court. "The Plaintiff may call up his next witness."

She was called to the witness stand. She knew it was going to happen eventually, but it didn't bother her. Not one bit. She had barely touched her lunch, as her stomach craved something, something a bit more.... whole-hearted.

All eyes were on her. She strolled ever so elegantly. Her long red skirt clinging to her waist. Her dark veil hat covering her face. The true mark of a femme. Her high heels bounced on the hard court room floor. 'click' 'clack' 'click' 'clack'. Not a movement went unwatched as she took the stand.

"Mrs. Edie" the plaintiff's attorney started before being interrupted.

"Please call me Ms."

" 'ahem' Ms. Edie you were with Mr. Dire the night of his death were you not?"

"Yes" batting her long black eyelashes "Yes I was."

"Would you explain to the court what transcribed that evening."

She licked her cherry lips. "I was to meet Stephen at The Strip. It was Friday night and although the traffic was awful, I never let a man drive me around. We had made plans. We were to stroll the beach at sunset and afterwords dine at Crem de la Crem. Sadly, we never made it to dessert. After walking for five minutes he ushered me into an alleyway. We made quiet talk. That's the last I saw of him" She stopped.

"Mr. Dire was found dead in that alleyway with a hole in his chest. And an empty cavity where his heart once was, do you know anything about this?" continued the Plaintiff

She licked her lips again. No one noticed her reaching into her purse to light a cigarette. No one stopped her. They couldn't stop looking at her. They couldn't wait for her to speak let alone breathe.

"He gave it to me." Chilling words coming from such a cold tongue.

"LIES! Mrs. Dire cried out. "That bitch ripped his heart out with her demon claws!" Mrs. Dire was weeping uncontrollably she couldn't, she wouldn't believe what was said. Stephen wouldn't give his heart to her, it wasn't his to give in the first place.

"Order in the court!" The gavel struck against the block. "Please keep the plaintiff in check please Mr. Greene."

Edie raised her left eyebrow and continued.

"He confessed his love to me. It was nothing but mindless dribble. The typical 'Nothing in the world matters to me except for you'. I smiled at him and he knew it wasn't enough for me. He knew what I wanted of him. And he happily obliged. He ripped it out and with both hands handed it to me as if it was a sacrifice to god. Quite heart-warming really. He really knew how to woo a lady of class. Sadly, he couldn't finish his sentence, he only got to say 'I love.."

The stenographer typing was the only sound in the whole courtroom. Then the minute sounds of weeping began to fill everyone's ears. Mrs. Dire was on the floor, weeping in her own puddle of tears. No one seemed to care. Their devilish grins and envious eyes still all pointed in the direction of the witness stand.

The attorney, trying to conjure up words to continue his case, eagerly asked
"He-art, his heart what did you end up doing with it?"

She didn't speak.

"Answer the question Mrs 'erhem' Ms. Edie" The court commanded. He too was quite ambitious to find the answer as well.

She smiled the most devilish grin. One you wouldn't expect from such an eloquent and beautiful face.

"I ate it."

The room's eyes widened as if they were all caught in the headlights. Ideas raced in their heads. They were all too busy. All to busy, to see the enraged Mrs. Dire pull out her Beretta from the strap on her thigh. They were all too busy to see Mrs. Dire scream and point towards Edie. They couldn't care less. They were all too shocked, too intrigued, too enticed. Edie just smiled and raised her eyebrow as if she was pushing Mrs. Dire to pull the trigger.

Mrs. Dire never fired a handgun before but the emotion she put into that gun she could've hit Ms. Edie from a mile away. It pierced Edie's heart. Right. On. Target.

The court still in shock still didn't know what to make up of this whole ordeal. Mass confusion in the courtroom. A few quickly snapped out of it and came to the aid of Ms. Edie. A widow from the jury ran to Mrs. Dire as she collapsed onto the floor. Edie was pronounced dead, as well as Mrs. Dire.

Both women had died of a broken heart.

As for me I just continued typing and smiled at the scent of sweet revenge.

This was really good, I wanted to read more. Is there a prequel?

Although, if you don't mind me saying the very last line could be dropped IMO.

Top work :)
