First post outside of EADD I think, but ive been checking this board regularly since I will be visiting Australia at the start of September.
I posted a similar thread over on EADD to see what Europeans made of Aus, but Im hoping people on here can offer some advice on areas to live etc. Visas/flights/finances etc are sorted.
The plan thus far is to holiday in SE Asia for a couple of months. Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. I have booked flights to arrive in Sydney right at the start of September. I think thats your spring ? From what ive read a light jumper/jacket would be sufficient at that time of year. Remember im used to the weather in Glasgow so around 20 is what we call a roasting hot day, lol.
Im hoping someone on here can offer some advice about renting in Sydney. Now from what Ive been looking at prices are crazy compared to Glasgow. I live in the city centre and pay £500 a month for a nice flat. I realise that the hourly rate/salary is far greater in Aus in general, but i dont think i can afford to live in the CBD. What areas outsdie of that allow easy access to the city centre and beach? The south East of the city looked appealing at first glance?
I have a friend in Sydney who had been able to pick up work easily using agencies. Ive got good customer service/office/managerial skills and it would appear there are plenty of suitable jobs I could do. Can you reccommed any agencies in particular I should use?
Whats the club scene like in Sydney. Its a huge city so im guessing it has everything including good drugs. I had a look on pillreports and it would seem you have had a bit of a problem with shit pills like here in the UK over the last couple of years. I dont suppose it will be too easy when you dont know anybody.
Im planning on leaving Syndey at the start of 2012 and travelling up towards Brisbane. This is when the holiday comes to an end and the more serious stuff starts. The girlfriend is a nurse and will be looking to start a permanent job. We accept that since she's only out of uni and been working for a year she might not get a job in the city and we have already started looking at places outside of Brisbane who are more likely to offer sponsorship.
