moving out after high schoool?

I'm not sure what gonna happen after high school, but I'm 16 now an a sophomore. I had a 4.0 gpa my freshman year and have about a 3.7 as I about to have finals. I probably have the grades to get into a UC 4 year but with the recession and my parents spending about 100k on 2 years of fashion school in LA on my sister, the chances of that are bleak.

I'll probably end up going 2 years at a local community college, then 2 years at a UC. my problem is I don't want to live at home, my parents control and anti-drug policies drive me crazy. however I doubt they'll help me pay for a studio even if I have a job :(.
anything I can do or any tips from people who've been there before?
 
FASFA. Talk to your school guidance consular. If you have the grades and are anything but white, you may have a real shot at getting a nice ride. Sports scholarships and grants are fairly common. Again, talk to your consular, they may have valuable information for you. Scholarships are out there and in abundance.

There are always options --- student loans. Sally may and such. I got lucky this year and received a full ride with a double major 3.36 GPA, though I am a minority, and I believe that contributed heavily into the amount I received.

Grants and loans, unfortunately, will depend on parent income if they are filing for you.
 
I doubt I can recieve grants my parents income is 100k + and I am white, so none of thus benefits minorities get :/

do I have less to pay if I move in with a roommate? I'm hoping my parents atleast split monthly rent with me, that'd be helpful

I recommend you mooch off your parents as much as possible, for as long as possible. Once you're out of high school, their 'control' will seem to wear thin. Even if they don't change, you will find it easier to not feel so controlled as you get older.

The biggest mistake you can make at your age, especially if money is a big concern, is to try to get your own apartment and car and be an independent adult. You probably just want to do that to impress girls, anyways, and all it's going to do is waste the best opportunity to save money you'll have in your entire life. Right now you can put up with the parents' BS and start saving hundreds of dollars per month that you can use when you graduate college to do things like: start a small business, pay the three months' rent usually required to move into your own apartment and buy all the furniture and stuff you need to live on your own, pay off your student loan payments for months or years while unsuccessfully looking for a job in a tough market, etc.

If you spend all your income through the next 4-6 years trying to become independent, you might just end up having to move back in with your parents out of desperation and feel like a loser when you can't get a job as a new college graduate.

Although im in college and i find it hard to save anything... too much booze lol. hopefully i'll get an internship this year
 
Keep up the good grades :) I was in a similar situation with over-controlling parents (except they couldn't afford to pay for my school). I applied at out-of-state universities and ended up getting a full academic scholarship to a college 3 states away. I lived on campus my freshman year and got an apartment after that.

Because of your parents' income you probably will not be eligible for grants, but you can still apply for scholarships and take out loans. Who knows, if you get accepted to a good school away from home your parents may still help you pay for it.

It's good that you're thinking about this stuff as a sophomore %) A lot of people wait till the last minute and don't get anywhere.
