Opioids Moving from Methadone to Suboxone

I had a much easier time going from Suboxone to Methadone than vice versa. And believe me I battled both for a total of 7 years. Got clean from Suboxone and the withdrawals were the worst I have ever tried to take on (tapered down to 1 mg... not even close to low enough.) I stayed awake, with only little microsleeps for 27 days! Fuck Subs!

On Methadone, however, I worked my way up to 120mg while living in MI, moved to South Beach, and tapered all the way down to 2 mg and jumped, and it was much, much easier. But I understand what you mean about the cloudy head. My dad said after I got off the Methadone that "it seemed like my IQ went up about 100 points." :)

Maybe reconsider your options here.

Yeah I've been wondering why I didn't either get sick or feel better. I think my body is used to going without because I get two weeks take homes and always run out before it's time to go back. I've gone 5 days and 4 days a bunch of times. As long as I'm working and staying busy it's not terrible. I was wondering if I would need to wait longer before going on Suboxone because of this. I don't know. I was scared as hell this morning that I was going to start throwing up but nothing happened. I'm about to go home and get in bed and see how tomorrow goes. I may be stupid but I feel like it can only get better from here. Hopefully I'm not wrong.

By all means, if you feel up to the switch, go for it. I maintained very well on Suboxone I should add. Made me a super-worker (even though it makes me sweat like a mother.) It was just the getting off after 3 years that was the hard part.

Sounds like you have a slow metabolism cause most people can't imagine missing their dose for two days or even a day with alot of people cause they get sick after 24 hours without. If I were you i would stuck with what has worked for you all this time because like the poster above me said suboxone is extremely difficult to withdrawal from even worse than methadone a lot of the times so why switch from one addictive drug to another. And sub's can give you that cloudy feeling too if you take too much methadone shouldn't do that but your on too high a dose if you just lowered your methadone you would've been fine probably. Now your gonna need a Suboxone dose high enough to keep you satisfied cause your still on 90mgs methaodne so that's where your tolerance is gonna stay but if you take a high dose of Suboxone your still putting the same amount of opiates into your body as before meaning you will still be cloudy headed and feeling like shit but probably more sick than you felt on Meth from doing this the wrong way. Even the right way its hard for someone on Meth to get into Suboxone

Thanks for all the help. I made it through work and am going home to get in bed and see what happens tomorrow.

Good luck, you can do it.... Though both have their nasty sides, I consider Methadone to have more addictive/danger potential than Buprenorphine. I was an opiate/opioid user of all types and varieties...whatever I could find, though Oxy was my DOC.

I did the transition from Methadone to Subutex (no Naloxone/Narcan) when I finally decided to clean up, as I was getting my Methadone through less than legal routes and had overdosed on it several times due to the very long timeframe for it to reach full effect. That's also what makes it so hard to quit. I saw the doctor on day-1 abstinence and took a single 4mg dose of Buprenorphine on day-2 of abstinence... I work physical jobs, and I attempted to go to work after I left the doctor's and now I know enough to not recommend that AT ALL.

I didn't go into precipitated withdrawals, but the Methadone was SO powerful compared to the Subutex that I did get physically ill at work, enough that my coworkers noticed it. I attempted to up the dosage at work by adding the other half pill but I still didn't feel right. But after about 4 days I started to feel decent enough to work without being too affected....

That being said, it will take time for you to start to feel *normal* on the Bupe, as the Methadone leaves your system. At first, Bupe feels like Codeine in comparison..so weak...but it does get better. Just do the first five days right because those are the hardest, IMO. Feel free to email me if I can help ya with anything.

BTW, I jumped off of the Methadone @ 40mg daily and was stabilized on 8mg Subutex 2x daily.

This past winter I went through a home detox with suboxone from doing dope daily for at least 3-4 months daily, previously was on methadone for 1 year but also did dope on top for half of it. I remember after ceasing doing my last shot of dope, waiting 18 hours and taking 2mg of sub, which did nothing. My WD did not get worse, but did not get better. It was still bad and was showing no sign of letting up, but I took 2mg like 6-10 hours (don't really remember exact time, was in a daze) , and I did start to feel substantially better,

My theory is that enough of the opiates have fallen off the receptors in my brain to warrant enough empty opiate receptors to cry out "feed me!!!", but there is still some left on the receptors so when I took the sub the first time, at 18 hours into WD, the sub probably pushed the remaining heroin out. But since there werent that much to begin with, its not really noticably worse WD. I also think that your brain needs to "learn" how to utilize buprenorphine in a way to establish feeling good and stable.
I do wonder though, if having done that, the first sub dose is needed to clean out the remaining opiates, and then after starting fresh with mostly empty opiate receptors, the sub would make you feel good.

What dose, 23ml, is that 23mg?

Either way, no, it is not long enough. You can't even think about touching sub for at least 72h, and more like 4-5 days.

You know you could have found your answer easily with the search engine.

sorry im really new to a pc and this site, I was donwn to 25ml of methadone the 23 was just me saying im a large chap and my tolerance may be a factor.
So was down to 25ml of meth and have 2mg tabs of subutex to take
Thanks

O and it was 715 am early Wednesday morning i had my last dose of 25ml. so about 48 hours ago

Wait or you"ll feel like shit. 25mg is a low dose; wait another 24 hours, and if you feel like hell you can dose 2mg sub then.

The only thing that macks me think is b4 i only waited no more than 29 hours and i was fine, Defo not 75

Ok, I took another 2mg an hour ago. I don't think I feel any worse. Maybe just a little better but it's hard to say. I almost feel like I need more than 2mg but I'm going to try to wait it out this week until I go back to the doctor. What sucks is I have to work a few Saturdays a year and tomorrow happens to be one of them. Damn this is no fun but I'm so sick of the methadone I've got to do it.

Methadone is so hard to kick.... I understand your not wanting to be bothered to even read replies to a post you created, I was the same way during detox...super irritable, restless...

When I quit, I had been taking 40mg once daily for the few days prior, then jumped off completely being that I ran out of Methadone completely. After 24 hours I visited the doctor and she checked my vitals and told me to come back the next day same time cause my stats/vitals indicated opiate activity still but she administered 2mg the next day while carefully checking my vitals and pulse every 15 mins. I was uncomfortable but gradually upped the subutex dosage daily, 2mg at a time.

But Mdone is such a long-acting drug that depending on your dosage and your body, I could see 72 hours easily being correct. Unfortunately, only you know your body and where that threshold is. I will say this though....when detoxing once I took a Subutex too soon, 20 hours after a few immediate-release Oxy's, and the precipitated withdrawals were horrible and rapid. BUT normally Oxy withdrawals crippled me for 4-5 days before I could function again....when I accidentally precipitated my withdrawal, the full process only lasted half as long...so in addition to getting the process started too early and rapidly, it seemed to significantly accelerate it.

Thanks. Today is 3rd day on Suboxone and 6th day without Methadone. I still feel like crap but it's not unbearable. Yesterday I was able to eat and sleep better but this morning I woke up throwing up. I took 3mg of Suboxone and was still throwing up for another hour or so. Is it possible that I threw up the Suboxone? I know that's gross but it's what's going on. Thanks a lot.

Buprenorphine, if I remember correctly, is rapidly metabolized on its first pass and has a very, very low oral availability rate....that's why they had to make it as a sublingual tablet. So that being said, swallowing any amount of a tablet will be largely useless to you. If you took it as instructed and let it dissolve in your mouth, throwing up after it's completely dissolved won't affect its metabolism...the active drug was absorbed through the soft tissues in your mouth, like cocaine is when rubbed on your gums or snorted....

The vomiting is likely a lingering side-effect from the Methadone withdrawal. Subutex will *help* mask some of the symptoms, but it's so much weaker in comparison that you'll still likely have symptoms, vomiting being one of them.

Do it, bupe detox is easy I'm coming off 24mg and it's pretty painless.

edit: I don't know what the fuck your doctors are doing, you need to taper down to at least 30mg of methadone before even thinking about switching to buprenorphine, and even then you're going to be in the 24mg-32mg(ceiling dose range. You need to get back on the 90mg of methadone and endure tapering the 60mg. 90mg isn't even close to where you should be switching over, no amount of buprenorphine will even come close to holding you at the moment.

Yeah trying to switch over to bupe from a dose so high of methadone is just asking for a lot of pain and misery. It'll take weeks of being incredibly sick before you stabilize. Even a lot of people who switch from 30mg's and under, have some trouble transitioning to bupe, let alone a dose like 90mg's.
