Hahahaha yeah I fucken love incorporating Big Lebowski quotes into my everyday speech!

Back in first year uni, every thursday after uni finished, me and all my housemates used to go buy a stick of weed and hire out the Big Lebowski (and I mean EVERY Thursday) and watch it stoned! It's the ultimate steoner movie!

Some of my favourite Big Lebowski quotes:

"Eight-year-olds dude."

"This is what happens when you FUCK a STRANGER in the ASS!"

"Fucken amateurs."

"Shut the fuck up Donnie, you're out of your element!"

Saw Kill Bill last night. I thought it wsa well made and entertaining, but the fight scences got repetative after awhile. Could have made some more dialogue at times.

Kill Bill better than the third installments of the matrix and LOTR. Bah' your mad *he's mad, he's a madman everyone*. Come back when you've seen all 3 on acid, then tell us which one had the profoundest impact on you... unless your a nutter it won't be Kill Bill!
gotta agree with nezo Spirited Away was an awesome "cartoon" (as a heathen would put it) more deserving of a 9/10 than 7.5
Anybody seen Jason vs Freddy?.... Freddy has to win, there's no contest, Jason Voorhees is retarded literally!

^ Matrix - Extremely overhyped and lots of fake looking CGI annoys the living fuck out of me...

LOTR - After the fucking mess they made out of the second movie (loved the first one) I'll be fucked if I'm getting hyped up about seeing the third one. Note: I'm an avid fan of the books and this may make me jaded, but fuck you Peter Jackson fuck you!

Therefore I am looking forward to Kill Bill more than the next LOTR or matrix :)

Irreversible - Gaspar Noe

After seeing this film earlier today with absolutely no prior knowledge - it is without question the most disturbing and graphically brutal thing I've ever witnessed.

The imagery will stay with me a life time and I just can't help think it was done amazingly well...

One gripe is the constant screaming that Irreversible is like Memento. The link is purely that both stories are told in reverse chronological order, nothing more.

An honest warning goes out to those brave enough - this doesnt raise the bar of film brutality - it picks it up and throws it far, far off into the distance.

The following is a review by Sean Axmaker of the Seattle PI from its American release around March 2003 - please note it contains the storyline in detail - so if you were going to attend, come back later.

******

Gaspar Noe ("I Stand Alone") uses the cinema as an assault weapon to tell the story of a loving couple destroyed by a random rape and rage-fueled revenge, in reverse: a fever-induced nightmare reimagining of "Memento."

Opening on the aftermath of violence, Noe plunges the audience into a dungeon of an underground gay sex club to reveal the cause. The soundtrack throbs and pounds, the camera jerks and tilts and swings so violently it may cause motion sickness, and the scene burns furnace red while Vincent Cassel batters his way through the labyrinth, and then the ordeal begins

As one man bludgeons another with a fire extinguisher, pounding his skull into a soggy, bloody, messy pulp in one of the most sadistically brutal scenes of human violence ever executed on screen, Noe turns his camera into a sledgehammer. Later (or earlier, to take the strict timeline literally), a harrowing rape puts Monica Bellucci (Cassel's lover) into a bloody coma and the camera records the prolonged, graphic (though not explicit), and brutal ordeal unflinchingly.

Shot in single takes, like every scene in this visceral yet tightly controlled film, these moments sent audiences fleeing from the theater at its Cannes premiere. You have to wonder if that was his point. But Noe is no mere provocateur. As the film stair-steps back from the adrenaline-and-anger-boosted scenes of fury and destruction, the jittery, digitally enhanced camerawork calms down, the soundtrack eases up and a delicate tenderness glows from Cassel and Bellucci at play, a loving couple with nothing but hope and happiness in their imagined future.

The grace of the final images is made all the more poignant by the violence we know awaits them, and the tragedy and sadness sinks in slowly in the destruction's wake.

"Time destroys all," claims the film, but the monstrous capabilities of human evil is the real culprit here, and Noe is determined to prove that the real evil that men do is not fodder for cinematic spectacle and cinematic entertainment. Which begs the questions: Is that reason enough to put it on the screen and put an audience through the experience? And when does the grueling ordeal of anti-entertainment become a perverse spectacle of its own? I don't have an answer, but this film still refuses to leave my thoughts.

8 out of 10

Disturbing? Definately.
Brilliant? You decide...

Irreversible is currently screening at the Lumiere in Melbourne.

^ =Shudders=
I've been told much about this movie, and I *really* *really* want to see it. :\
Only problem is, I'm sure it will rock my core, and I may need a while / someone to help me recover.

Mebbe' when it's out on DVD, we can rent it and Gen can help me through it?

The Life and Death of Peter Sellers

Even if you haven't seen any of Seller's movies (eg: The Pink Panther, Dr Strangelove), this is a really enjoyable film. It covers aspects of both his personal life (which was interesting in itself) and his acting career. Geoffrey Rush is a brilliant actor.

I'd give it 9/10 :)

^Agreed. :D
Might have to check this one out, thank's Kat.

Caught some of 'The Passion Of Christ' today. Most who know me irl will know that's a scream in itself. ;)
Didn't think a great deal of it.
Maybe 5/10, for what it was. I always give a few points for subtitles - - - they keep at least part of the brain amused. -=Shrugs=-

i wanted horror....i got shite

Saw The Village the other day...

Unimpressed....was willing to give M Shymalan the benefit of the doubt after Signs and to a lesser extent Unbreakable (I still enjoyed Unbreakable kind of) and was hoping that he'd returned to 6th sense form, as I really enjoyed the previews to this movie. Official verdice - piece of crap. Tried to engage in too many themes/plot lines....basically - if anyone sees it you will know what I 'm talking about here....if one particular scene in the middle of the movie was cut out, it could have maybe worked on a horror level. But it wasn't , so it doesn't. It basically puts the 'twists' in totally the wrong order/places.

Very disappointed. Not even scary except in a couple of bits(which even more annoyingly were done really well). It couldn't decide whether it wanted to be The Crucible or Witness (stupid Harrison Ford Amish movie) and quite frankly was crapper than both.

I'd give it 4 out of 10. Maybe 5. :(

^^ i think that people who approach it as a horror movie tend to hate it more than people who approach it as a statement on society.

there is so much 9/11 imagery in the movie, the 'village' leaders who have told the villagers that the venturing to the outside world (anything beyond the border) will result in death. anything outside the village is evil etc etc etc.

basically, the village is bush's paranoid america, bush and his partners pulling the strings to 'protect' its inhabitants who are unaware of the world around them.

i give the village 8/10

Holy fuck I saw that movie today.... I was actually shocked at the graphic sexual volience of rape, homosexuailty sexual acts, and volience.... geee that movie left me speechless. 8o

But fuck, it's bloodly disturbing movie, yet I loved it the way it was setted out and programed... the acting and the photography was so extremely well done, that I give this movie a total 9.5 out of 10.

Yeah I watched this on Saturday and wasn't overly impressed. I would prefer to watch this over, say two hours of an ant having its legs pulled off and then being burnt with a magnifying glass. But only because human beings bleed red meaning it's slightly more visually stimulating to watch a man get beat up for two hours rather than an ant.

I would have preferred this movie a lot more if it was trying to make some sort of statement about mans inhumanity to man, but the whole caring about Jesus Christ over the millions of other humans who have been tortured to death over the centuries angle just doesn't cut it with me.

Maybe Mel should have made a movie about the spanish inquisition instead. Much worse torture and done in the name of JC, not to him.

Phonebooth

OK - a phone call can change your life. Or so the movie hype would have you believe of this movie – but that is not the hook on this movie… and is really misleading. So, put away your preconceived notions and what you’ve heard about the movie and start from scratch.

Everyone is more than what you see on the outside. Some people have very complex lives that you just wouldn’t think about until something happens to remove their surface veneer (Hi President Clinton). But you never get to see what’s going on until something happens – a “significant emotional event”, that transforms the individual. Classically, a life-or-death experience can permanently change one’s outlook and values; and can force a person to confront who the really are.

Set entirely within and around a 100 foot radius of a New York City phone booth, Stu Shepard (Colin Farrell), a shady, glitz and hype media consultant who is cheating on his wife, makes a call to his girlfriend who can’t meet him that afternoon. As he hangs up, the phone rings and, naturally, he answers the phone.

On the other end, is a man who obviously can see everything Stu’s doing, and has a laser dot from a 30-30 sniper weapon pointed at Stu’s chest. That gets Stu’s immediate attention. The caller describes his last 3 shooting victims, and tells Stu that now it is his turn… he needs to be honest and needs to start being honest by confessing to his wife about the affair. Stu is stunned and torn between making a run for it, not wanting to confess his infidelity, and trying to keep alive.

When the local working girls get pissed that Stu is monopolizing the phone, they get their studly boyfriend to kick Stu out of the phone booth. Although Stu tries to get them to leave by offering them money (but not respect as the caller reminds Stu), when the boyfriend takes a baseball bat and busts the window - the serial killer with a sniper rifle shoots the boyfriend dead in the street.

The cops arrive (Forest Whitaker) and are faced with an apparently unarmed man in a phone booth who won’t leave and won’t say why.

I really liked this filmer. A thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

shals :D

Lola Rennt or Run Lola Run

Just watched it and I've goto say I could watch it again. The movie is in the style of "The Butterfly Effect", but this came first. It's made in Germany with englsh subtitles. There is some very cool cinematography and animations.

It stars Franka Potente, the girl from "The Bourne Identity", and I tihnk she's great, she does a lot of running lol

I'm not going to say what this movie is about, but it's definately worth a watch if you liked TBE, or don't know what movie to choose to watch.

I rate it 8/10, it missed out on a 9 because at times it got repetetive or dragged on.

Few movies I've seen lately

Passion of the christ

Not good, I really didnt enjoy this one little bit but I was hungover and bored so it got watched until the end. I don't know what Mel intended to get across with this one, failed to pull a single one of my strings.

Morven Callar

Won lots of awards but this really didnt inspire me either. It starts out interesting and really drew me in but after a while watching her act like a complete headcase gets as frustrating as hell. The ending leaves a lot to be desired except for her friends dialogue in the pub.... that made the movie.

Spirited Away

Not a rental, I own this on DVD and I had to put my .02 in. Watched this for the first time in Japan about a year ago. Please please please people DONT WATCH THE ENGLISH DUBBED VERSION!!!! (goes for ANY foreign film)
There is nothing more detrimental to experiencing a movie. Use subtitles, LISTEN to the Japanese voice actors, PAY ATTENTION to the dialogue. If you have even a basic understanding of japanese you will be able to appreciate this movie.

anyone caling it a "cartoon" should be shot, in the head... rant out

some small screen stuff....

The Butterfly Effect :
Cool movie. I really enjoyed this... it had me transfixed from start to finish. See it even if you're not an Ashton fan.

Mona Lisa Smile :
Kinda lame, and I usually like chick flicks like this. Julia Roberts annoyed the *shit* out of me, and the movie backed away from making a firm point about anything. The one saving grace was Maggie Gylenhall, who is an absolute GODDESS.
Not a Dead Poet's Society by a long shot.

Elephant :
This was inspired by the Columbine High School shootings. I watched it on a pill. I wouldn't recommend watching it on a pill. It's an arty, weird, slow-moving peice which is *extremely* thought provoking and clever.... there isn't much bloodshed. But there aint a lot of heartwarming moments either (waste of MD really). Watch stoned if anything. This movie makes time seem to warp, you feel really weird afterwards. I can only compare to Lost in Translation for the feel and the way the cinematography takes centre stage.

Once apon a Time In Mexico:
Watched 5 minutes and fell asleep.

House of Sand and Fog :
Now this I was itching to see. I'd read the book and had heard rave reviews. What a disappointment!! Another case of the book far surpassing the film. I really felt ripped off at the end of this, despite my deep undying love for Jennifer Connolly. I can't put my finger on it... it was just.... wrong.

That's all for now, I'm sure I'll have more soon. Want to see One Pefect Day and Monster. This rainy weather.... it's just begging you to sit on your butt in front of the widescreen. =D

^^really? i loved The House of Sand and Fog . this film really managed to draw me in, quite profoundly actually. i hadn't heard or read anything about it prior to viewing, and i was genuinely quite surprised by my own reaction to it. i think that the russian director (?) did a really good job at this. i've been told that he was chosen to direct because of his personal affiliation with the script, and more specifically the Barni family. for me personally id have to say that his overwhelming passion for the script really shined through in this greatly. :)

Run Lola Run' s a good watch too. i saw it a few years ago now, great great sound track. and well... i'm generally a sucker for foreign films, what can i say :)

i recently saw The Salton Sea which i thought was pretty good. i wouldn't exactly call it "ground breaking" but nonetheless, creative direction, strong performances, and a script that shifts to and fro in time kept me thoroughly intrigued for majority of the film. val kilmer's a hottie in this too!
