Mouthguards / Bruxism / Teeth Grinding etc

Hey everyone,

I know that this subject comes up every now and then on the site and a lot of people are worried about the damage that can be done to your teeth when taking MDMA/Stims etc.

I'm just trying to get a bit of information on who would be interested in buying a specially fitted mouthguard to avoid the problems.

These would be mail order - clear plastic and would form an almost invisible barrier over your teeth. These will be professionally made by a fully trained and qualified dentist who knows about the damage that can be caused to your teeth by MDMA / Stim use.

Depending on the cost - would you use one?

Dont forget these would be custom fit for 'your' mouth and not some standard fitting gum shield that you can buy over the counter.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I used to use them when i rolled.When i was younger i had braces when i got them off i was givin some retainers.Clear plastic pritty firm and feels great to clench your really hard with them ...............Great idea mate :D

too much of a hassle/price for me,im satisfied with just chewing gum.super protective probably,but the grinding damage dosent warrent it yet for me

Since I was young grinding my teeth has been a natural habit, like when Im thinking or doing something constructive. So once I started rolling I couldnt notice the difference until the next morn when my jaws were sore as hell. So I tried the gum thing and ended up biting a chunk out of my toungue chewing to hard.It just healed from two weeks ago.

Yeah, I probably would be interested. I chew gum daily so when I'm rolling, I'm actually chewing the gum instead of just letting it be there (that kinda thing). Depending on the cost of course, that could be an option.

Sounds like a good and profitable Ideal. You should develop, patent and then survey before someone else does.

That is mine. It's intended to be used at night to stop me from grinding in my sleep (Yes I actually do...Not always grinding from rolling)
I absolutely love it.
I think it cost around $250 but my insurance took care of that. It does a fantastic job of protecting my teeth. It's made of super hard plastic so it's pretty durable. The only problem is that it makes talking difficult when you first get it but that is because it is intended to be used at night while you're sleeping..

Mail order seems kind of sketchy to me. It's hard for them to get a custom fit when they can't mold your mouth for accuracy. You're better off going to a sporting goods store and getting a mold-able football/rugby/whatever mouth guard and make it yourself. They're fairly cheap so that way if you lose it it's not a big deal.

There are pretty good bite-to-fit mouthguards available at grocery stores specifically for teeth grinding. Between one of those and some magnesium you should be good to go. Stay hydrated too

Just as a warning on that...the grocery store ones are NOT suitable for anyone who actually has a TMJ disorder. I have a clear plastic one that fits over my teeth, for both the top and bottom (the top one has additional plastic pieces on it to help align my bite, the bottom one is holding a space open from where I'm missing a tooth) that look exactly like the above picture. It would be impossible to implement sales of custom-fit ones without a dental mold I would think, since even with that it took my orthodontist a while of cutting/filing to even make something this simple fit perfectly.


EDIT: I forgot to add the price in...I made a deal with my orthodontist and dentist since I've been a long time patient, but these are standardly about $150 each where I'm from.

I would love one if they were affordable!
The only thing holding me back from getting one is that they cost 270.
Cvs pharmacy carrys a mouth guard that doesnt gag, doesnt cover fronts it just covers your last 2 mollars keeping your jaw apart. They are 17$ for a dozen and can be used multiple times. Ill post brand and pic if brands are not against rules.

Dont forget that chewing gum can actually make the problem worse - you often forget about the gum and spend the night chomping on some hard piece of gum. If your using gum them replace it often or your doing more harm than good.

This isnt a side line for me - Im asking this question for a third party.



For me I have always used gum (changed often) but I know that a lot of people especially in the US like to take this a bit further and use pacifiers / gum shields etc.

The problem with the OTC shields is that they are bulky and not everyone raving wants to be sucking on a pacifier etc.
