Mother uses Ky. law to pull daughter from heroin

Your facts are dog shite. Maintenance is the same as being clean. I was a heroin addict for seven years and I have been on Methadone for four years. I am clean and no different than a diabetic that requires insulin to function.

My mother tried pulling me from heroin but she realized after a while I wasn't going to stop until I wanted to. Rehabs, detoxes, cold turkey, trying to keep me home, threatening to kick me out wasn't productive. She also did some research and realized that I wasn't just addicted; I needed the stuff to function. She didn't want me running the streets with shady people, overdosing (again) or getting arrested, so she would take me to go cop. Sometimes she would even give me cash to get right. If it wasn't for her I would be dead or in jail.

Eventually I got tired of the life and decided to try Methadone. From day one on the program I never touched heroin again.

Wow, what a story!
You owe your life to your mom - twice, at least, counting the time she birthed you.
She must be pretty open-minded, and really love you so deeply, to be willing to do all that.
I am sure that most moms would not be able to take their kid to go cop heroin!
I hope that you never lose track of a deep sense of gratitude toward her.

I agree with you actually. I know a lot of people dont but its nice to see I aint alone with this. When I was clean Id help people make up their shots or hit a vein for them, whatever, i didnt fucking care.

If Im gonna use, Im gonna use, whether the dope is 100 miles away or in front of me. If I aint gonna use, there can (AND HAS BEEN) a loaded syringe right in front of me all for me and I can easily turn it down. but thats really off topic, so nevermind.

Nice to see you here, Khadijah!
I wanted to say that you sound like an incredibly strong person, but not everyone is as strong as you.
For some people, a loaded syringe right in front of them would be waaaaaay too much to handle when they are trying to stay off of heroin.

Ugh, the day Guido relapses, SD will go down the shitter and he'll lose the progress he's made. I don't see him going back anytime. If he does, then I'll kick his ass cuz at that point ill physically be able to :P

for sure yo. I completely agree with you. Just speakin for myself. one thing with addiction that never fails to amaze me is that people treat it all the same.

Now me personally i dont really go for the whole addiction is a disease thing, at least not in the way that most people claim. but just for the point of what Im trying to say here, lets say ok, addiction is a disease, because Im speaking from the standard point of view. So with any other disease nobody considers a one size fits all approach. nobody thinks everyone with depression or anxiety or heart disease needs the same treatment and has the same mental profile and etc. Nobody would dream of just right on down the line prescribing the exact same drug or treatment to everybody who has the same problem. but with addiction, thats exactly what most people do. "Go to NA. You have to be 100% abstinent and can never use again", etc. there is basically one standard "acceptable" treatment and thats it for the most part. But just like anyone else were all different . One guy with heart disease who gave himself heart disease by eating horrible food and never getting off the couch might have to follow a extremely strict diet for the rest of his life and never touch double cheeseburgers again because he just cant handle it without going back to unhealthy eating. but maybe another guy is able to moderate his diet, learn from his mistakes and still eat foods he enjoys within reason sometimes and still keep himself healthy.

Some people need to be 100% away from all temptation all the time to be successful at being 'clean' whatever that definition may be but other people dont. it all depends on the person and it annoys me when people apply the same fuckin standards to every addict assuming were all the same, all wired the same in the head, all have the same weaknesses, all think the same way, etc. Its really weird when I think about it, that as much awareness and research has came out in the past ten years about addiction, people still have such ridiculously outdated and simple ideas about the treatment and the path to 'success' or freedom from addiction. some people are addicts for life, some aint, some people need intense structured treatment some do it on their own, some are powerless in the face of their cravings and need to stay totally away from it at all times to be able to stay on the right path, some are comfortable and secure in themself enough to be able to turn down something offered to them, its all different. How is it that doctors and the treatment industry and the NA people and all of these folks dont get that? There aint no one size fits all approach to treating addiction or staying clean and if the standard ideas about how to live with and treat addiction were applied to any other disease or problem people would think it was absolutely ridiculous. I dont get how the usual ideas that seem to be accepted (12 step based models being "THEE" gold standard in the US at least) are still pretty much the only game in town for addiction treatment. it really blows my mind sometimes how people dont see how crazy and damaging that is to have such a one sided and narrow approach about this shit.

But annnnnyways....

The reason why I promote 100% abstinence when seeking to overcome addiction is just in case the person cannot just avoid his DOC. They may never get the chance to return and try something different. Its like the lottery, you can't lose if you don't play. I feel confident I could use psychedelics and smoke weed and have an occasional drink, but what if I decide after that to shoot up some dope? If I don't take the risk, there is no risk involved. Though I do agree, some people can manage going back to "lesser" drugs.

I don't have a problem with 12 step programs, I know complete abstinence is just part of the program, and if I don't want to completely abstain from everything I just won't get involved with meetings. Or I'll go and not mention that I'm smoking weed(AA) or drinking occasionally(NA).

I think the truth is, everyone's different. different people can get away with doing different things. I can smoke weed and have it not lead me back to heroin. I can drink occasionally and have it not lead me back. But trying to use pills or snort a line of speed or coke will most likely lead me back into using heroin everyday. I know there's no way I can use heroin occasionally because every time I've been off of it and done it "just once", I've ended doing it every day again. Which I don't know how much of that I can blame on heroin and how much to blame on myself. I do like heroin a lot.

I'm prone to using cocaine addictively too, but strangely, I usually don't enjoy it very much. Now that's a drug that fucks your brain chemistry into making you crave more without giving you a reward that really justifies the desire. That's my opinion.

Anyway, the thing that pisses me off about 12-step programs is that they're religious/spiritual programs based on a philosophy that a couple guys just basically "dreamed up" in the 1930's, and now....It's generally accepted as the ONLY effective treatment for all kinds of addictions. People are routinely ordered to attend 12 step meetings or forced into inpatient programs that use 12 step programs and force patients to participate.

It's very strange that the 12 steps are so widely accepted by courts, mental health professionals and doctors because nothing could be further from being scientifically based than the 12 steps. Of course, everyone claims it's a "spiritual program", but the way it's oftened imposed on people makes it seem more like hard-core "behavioral modification"....the kind you'd see at a government run, re-education camp....Which, fuck! That's what most rehabs in the US actually are! Touchy/feely spirituality my ass!

I'm boycotting AA and NA because of their complicity in the War on Drugs. I was actually legally punished for my objection to these groups.

I used to like AA/NA but after going for a while shit got weird. So many people including myself where using. One guy tryed to give me a bag of methadone vials. He would come in meetings for like five minutes and walk out and like five people would follow. Im pretty sure he was selling and in trouble with the law. I mean who gives away a large quanity of narcotics to a stranger.
I used to go back to AA back in the day when I was a crucial drunk and on probation and looking at serious time. I was only like 19 or 20 at the time but I was a drunk. (teenage runaway) Well anyways seeing how I couldnt get a job because of probation my PO suggested AA. These guys were ok but they would all smoke pot and they knew I hated it cuz I was pissing in a cup 4 times a month or so. They also would take me to whore houses and I was some sort of faggot if I didnt want to fuck these enslaved women from island countries. There was alot of peer pressure and I ended up fucking nasty whores who should have been paying me to fit in. Well after that I knicked the chips for a few years and never went back.
Anyways last time I went to a meeting this guy asked me how I knew my ex gf and I knew she was tricking but he really didnt need to tell me he was one of her regulars. Kinda didnt want to shake his hand. You know a 55 year old man fucking a 24 year old girl to fund her horrid addiction. It rubbed me the wrong way cuz I was still in contact with her but no longer sleeping with her.
Also one guy kept asking me to get him ratchets and at first I figured it would be ok but I dunno I dont see why if you trying to live all clean and shit you want a burner. Also this one guy kept blowing up my phone asking me for pills cuz he knew I had a scrip. Finally I chilled with him for like an hour. He missed his shots 3 times and Im like ok this dudes a fucking cop. I told him to get out politley and basically he insisted on paying, so I said split an oxy with me sometime. Of course his response is ok but my source just got popped, so we gotta go to yours. I think we would both be dead if I would have been dumb enough to take his cracker ass to my spot. I have whats referred to around here as a "hood pass" and that means you can go to the PJs and dope houses without getting hassled cuz your white. Ive seen some shit go down if you dont know people, but I have some interesting pals.
I digress my experience with AA/NA was that most people relapsed or continued to use. Most guys in there cheated on their wives with prossis most every week and I couldnt wrap my mind around that. I just wouldnt marry a woman if I didnt think she was enough or if we had an arrangement. These people are so bitter sometimes. I remember one dude yelled at me for wearing my cap backwards. He said "I was cool in AA once, I fucking replapsed, just like that guy right there will." I said "you got 20 years and your still miserable." We got in a fight. No one called the cops but I wasnt allowed to beat him as much as I wanted to.

I am against all forms of forced drug addiction treatment. Why you might ask? Well because I have experienced how much they suck. I have had several friends forced into these treatments, some of which have died the day they got out simply because they never had any intention of quitting and when they got out they had their usual fix of heroin and that was it. My ex was also forced into one of these treatment centers where she got no help and once a member of the staff hit her so she had a black eye when I arrived.

No one can help an addict that does not want to be helped, people need to get their mind straight first before attempting to quit drugs. Forcing people into these treatments is just a temporary solution and often these treatment facilites (at least here in Sweden) are really bad and is more of a place to get rid of all unwanted addicts that are not yet in prison rather than actual treatment centers.

Also these treatment centers will offer you NOTHING against withdrawals from opiates, no matter what dosage you are on. To me that is torture.

I do not know for sure what I would do if my son or daughter used heroin, but I know for sure three things I would not do: #1: get angry, #2: threaten to kick them out, #3: involve the authorities

Argh just thinking about all this makes me want to break something.

Kicking at home (as long as you can handle it) is always the best option. No other people around to annoy you, you can watch your own TV, eat your own soup (if possible) and take whatever drugs you think you need to get through it. Last time I detoxed in an inpatient setting I had to wait 5 hours one night before the doctor could "prescribe" a fucking nasal decongestant. And then I did not even get the whole bottle but had to ask every fucking night. Seriously.

Oh yea they also took away all the sugar cubes because they thought I ate too many lol. (I always get this extreme urge to eat candy at the end of withdrawals) This pissed me off too.

Its hard to be a gun owner when you kick dope but yeah they do annoying shit. I had a rip in my ear cuz something caught caught on my earing. I had stretched ears. I was in there for like 4 or 5 days asking for neosporin. They kept saying sure we will get it and then its like we dont have any. I said yeah you do its a fucking hopsital.
Its super annoying to have to ask for your meds. Last time I was in the hospital and I had an abcess and well I had a pain scrip. They decided I should get my doses exaclty 8 hours a part and seeing how it was two meds every 4 hours and only if I asked. Believe it or not I was in their a week and I only missed one dose. They were not giving me shit for my abcess cuz I had scrips and I of course was out so they had to dole it out to me. I wrote down when I could ask for my pills on a piece of paper and had one confiscated. The treatment was cuz I was a junkie with an abcess who was obviously getting high on his own pills IV.

What the fuck is the point of having a child that hates you? Serious question time.

I'd rather OD in my parents house with a needle in my arm and have them find me that way, than to actually hate my parents for life and shit like that.

Just saying.
While I agree forcing somebody into rehab isn't that great of an idea she's only doing because it she wants her daughter to get better. At least she is not one of those parents who would just throw their daughter out on the street to die or call the cops on her.

Thats the next step if she listens to the treatment "profesionals"

What's the point? If you force someone to go and they don't want help or deny they have a problem, then isn't it true that rehab programs/treatments doesn't work? I mean I guess every now and then someone may go and once they are sober they realize hey this is great but won't most just relapse?

True in the vast majority of cases, yes - But I have personally seen a couple people forced into treatment who had a moment of clarity or spiritual experience that changed they're minds. And they remained sober for the last couple years while I myself, was never forced into treatment - I WANTED to go myself twice, and then a third time just recently. I hope i get it this time, but the point is wanting it and not wanting it doesn't always make the difference. (initially)

No, someone requiring insulin for diabetes has an illness, you have a methadone addiction, it's completely different.

I think that if you really wanted a child to get better you would let them get the party out while they're young, get to the point where they want to change for themselves/their own reasons, and then get them help.
