A new mother has been charged with smoking the powerful synthetic stimulant known as bath salts two days after she gave birth, while still in the maternity ward of a central Pennsylvania hospital, and violently attacking staff.
Carla Murphy, of Altoona, is charged with aggravated assault and various drug counts for allegedly stripping naked and beating staff at the Altoona Regional Hospital.

Wow that is just terrible. I really hope she wasn't using bath salts while pregnant. She should lose custody for this

Something is terribly wrong with this.
Giving birth is one of the highlights of a lifetime, but she was just thinking about getting high?
Her priorities are badly out of place.
She should / could have been resting in the most amazing place, with her new baby;
it gave me a glow far better than any drug ever.

If we are going to assume the whole "bath salts" media craze is all hype, then I'm going to assume that the people who have the most to gain from making the "bath salts" illegal, likely just paid this woman to do this.

It seems plausible to me.

Its more likely that these things happen all the time and are now being blamed on bath salts instead of meth or crack. This could be a concerted effort by those who would like to see broader scheduling laws. It could also be because it sells news to an uneducated public. Or it could be both.

^ Indeed. I've seen a few docos and read a few stories about woman high on meth or crack or heroin and giving birth and hitting the needle or pipe as soon as they are out, or not getting custody of their kid. I guess it's kinda the same with alcohol and tobacco as well, these are all obviously very addictive drugs, more so to some people and they just dont or cant think straight. Yes it should be the highlight of a lifetime, but unfortunately some people get so addicted that the drugs come first.
