A Motueka High School parent gave her child cannabis to hand out to fellow students, resulting in one arrest and several suspensions.

Police were alerted to the issue shortly after lunchtime on Monday.

"There was a problem with cannabis at the school. A student was supplying it to other students and we are speaking to a number of students as a result," said Senior Sergeant Grant Andrews of Motueka police.

Mr Andrews said the student was giving the drug away, not selling it.

"We obtained a search warrant which resulted in the arrest of a local woman for possession, not supply."

The woman is due to appear in Nelson District Court next week. Mr Andrews said he could not give any further details on the case because it involved minors.

Motueka High School chairman Ian Palmer said he could not comment because the matter was in front of the school's board.

However, he did confirm that three students were suspended due to "gross misconduct".

"These kids have a right to defend themselves and they will get that," he said. "We want to make sure the process is done properly for their sake. All schools need to get these issues under control."

The three students, believed to be 13 years old, are due to appear before the board on Monday evening and have all been referred to Youth Aid.
 
Damn, misleading title. I thought the mom was handing 'heroin' out not pot. I mean, if the girl was at least 16-17 I don't see the harm in actually smoking pot or smoking with her friends. But that was a stupid move to have her go around school handing that shit out. It sounds like nobody was being discreet about it though, "Gross misconduct".

Dude at my rehab, everyone called methamphetamine "dope". It drove me nuts.
 
I also thought it referred to heroin, was pretty surprised it was actually weed. Handing out heroin would be much more of a problem I believe.

Don't people over 50 count, too?
Do you hate it when they call it dope?
What if a reporter or cop is over 50 - is it then acceptable to call it dope?
Or do people over 50 have no right to speak about drugs at all, using their time-worn slang that you hate so much?
Should they change their language to match your preferences?
 
^no it just confuses as for the most part as barely anyone here is over 50 or a cop. Not ahuge deal, just slightly misleading for the most of use who see dope as heroin. I think that's what it is. At least for me.

Someone needs to change the title.....

Agreed. Instead of dope just say MJ, it would be much less confusing for many here on BL.

Nope no one counts and yes obviously everyone should change to match me.
 
Just because of ignorance and propaganda from that era, even though it's still happening today.
 
pahleez, obviously if this involved real dope it wouldnt involve the whole giving it away part :p

It's a regional thing... It's still a popular slang term in the midwestern USA/Canada, particularly in more back-woodsy areas. See: trailer park boys.
 
I also thought they meant smack. Dope should mean hard drugs in general, eg. methheads will say theyve "been off the dope for x amount of time" when they mean they quit meth, not dope sometimes. Youth Aid is essentially doing community service and being a good boy/girl and not getting a proper record
 
Is nobody here a fan of Dopesmoker (2003)? It's a 63-minute doom-metal paean to marijuana. One of the greatest albums of all-time.
