Mother Arrested After 3-Year Old Child Reportedly Ingests LSD

I agree with davesoviet. LSD is physically harmless, and the chances of a psychedelic trip having any long-term psychological effects on a 3 year old are slim. If there are any effects, they're as likely to be positive as negative.

He's 3. He'll be fine. He won't even remember any of what happened after a few days.

highly doubtful. (not to mention insulting to children-- I remember the week of my 3rd birthday in great detail, plus everything afterward.)

I wonder what the damage really is on that. I bet he grows up to be a science professor.

^^that would be pretty interesting if he did...

That is a shame tho, poor kid had to endure all of that, hes only been alive for a few years and prolly had no idea what was going on. when you are that young your brain doesnt know much. what i mean is that he hasnt seen a lot of things or experienced life past 4 years. it was prolly terrifying for him.

and the parents suck for letting someothing like that sit out...i mean come on..what kid wouodnt be attracted to a pile of sweet tarts, im 24 and i woudl have prolly eaten some lol. i hope the kid pulls though and his cognitive function isnt toally destroyed.

medicine, the article said the parents were outside when he ate them. They likely didn't call 911 for an hour because they didn't notice him behaving strangely until it had kicked in over the course of an hour.

man really? i dont remember a thing after like, 5 maybe... even then the memories are a bit sketchy

I wouldn't like to take nine hits of acid now, let alone when I was three :(

That is pretty irresponsible of whoever left those out within reach of a three year old. I just hope the littel guy will be ok. I know that LSD isn't very toxic but can't it still mess with your body temperature?

Many don't remember their childhood because they didn't suffer any major trauma. This kid could very well develope some serious psychological complications after such an experience.

Another contributing factor would be the length of time it took from onset to the doctors getting a chance to squash the trip with antipsychotics.
If he completed the entire 8 or so hours of the trip, he would almost definitely be fuxxored.

Childhood events can have a serious impact on what kind of person someone becomes in the long run. I hope this doesn't screw the kid up for life; 9 hits of acid can be pretty scary for an adult that knows they're taking LSD!

This thread is funny in a way (respectfully) i'd really like to see what happens to the child just out of pure curiosity. Too bad we'll probably never be updated :\

Yep, I totally do. I remember a lot of that week, I remember being in the car driving up to Unicoi, GA for a camping trip which would coincide with my 3rd birthday. I remember, at the campsite, getting in my grandpa's RV and popping it into neutral and all the grown ups suddenly getting a scared-as-fuck look on their faces as I rolled closer to them. I remember almost sliding down the side of a cliff next to our campsite because I guess I was still learning to walk. I also remember walking up to some older kids (who I'm guessing were brother and sister probably around 12 and 14, respectively) and inviting them to my campsite for some birthday cake. I also remember that it was a white cake and it said "superboy" on it and a picture of a kid-superman drawn on it.

Thats some detailed memories for a 3 year old, and it didnt involve anything traumatic, so I'm guessing that a 900mg acid trip would probably leave some imprints...

He will be fine until he is in his teenage years in my opinion. then get some major PTSD and anxiety problems trying to work out what the hell happened.

What the fuck are you guys talking about? I don't know ANYBODY, even adults who can take 9 good hits of LSD and not be a little bit loopy afterwards - this assuming they had a good trip, were well prepared, etc. Look at some of the trip reports of adults who were prepared and had a bad trip off of just a couple hits. They often report being fried for a while afterwards. Think about NOT being prepared, NEVER having experienced anything even close to a trip before, and, on top of that, being a small child who is still in a critical stage of development where even minor experiences can hold great import. I'm hoping the child's brain is developed enough to be able to block out memories forever, and that the experience was horrible to the point where the child's mind would block it out.

An lsd trip is a lot to comprehend and a lot to integrate. It is not safe for 3 year children.

Yeah it sucks for her, but having children isnt like having a dog, where you can just let it roam free while you do whatever the fuck you want. Bad parent! BAD!

Sorry, but yeah, she's a horrible parent, and I hope for the kid's sake that she changes that REAL quick...

Well this is serious enough, both ethically and legally, that I doubt she'll regain custody of the kid, at least not for a long time.

My vauge memories of that age are more like feelings than memories, but I recall not knowing what was going on all the time! The world is all new and everything is strange. It's part of being a kid, isn't it? I think the fact that he doesn't know much and hasn't experienced a lot will work in his favour.

I also remember having some quite horrific nightmares when I was younger. I wonder if this kid will remember his experience as some kind of dream? :)

i remember feelings as well. i remember the feeling of overwhelming safety while in my mother's arms on the way to bed - perhaps a specific time, or a composite of all the times she took me to bed. -- regardlessly. this kid will certainly remember something... everyone seems to be so sure it will be negative though. this type of thing could actually be a lot easier to handle for a child of that age. i mean, he just broke free from the universalness... why would going back for a little while be so difficult? he doesn't even have full self-development, so the destruction of self should come a lot lighter in my opinion. its the ego-loss after 20 years of building "me" up that really got me.

Honey? Wheres the LSD laced sweet tarts?

The kid will probably be fine. LSD has few physical symptoms. I would highly doubt the kid develops any overtly negative lasting psychological effects.

Ha. Reaching out and grabbing at the air and then crying. I bet he saw sparkles and chocolates and things and when he couldnt get them he got mad. Then he got distracted by other things. Probably woulda been traumatic, but he'll be fine. If anything fucked him over it will have been all those antipsychotics that he was probably pumped with to counteract the LSD.
