Mother arrested after child reportedly ingests LSD

KVUE News

A 3-year old boy from the Austin area remains in intensive care after police say he reportedly ingested nine pieces of candy laced with LSD.

His mother, Ashli Rene Freas, 22, was arrested for endangering a child. Investigators say she waited for more than an hour before her friends called 911 to get her son some help.

Police said Freas and her boyfriend took the child to a party Sunday night somewhere in the Parmer and Duval area. They say the youngster ate nine Sweet Tarts laced with LSD while his mother and her boyfriend were both outside.

Police and paramedics who responded say the 3-year-old was showing obvious signs of hallucination when they arrived.

"As the mother was carrying the child down the stairs, he was grasping in the air. He was reaching out for things that weren't there, calling out crying, screaming then calming down and then going right back into that and she said this was not normal behavior for him," said Jeff Hayes, Cedar Park police.

Cedar Park police are working with austin police trying to find out where the party was in Austin and who was there. They want to know how a 3-year-old was able to get to LSD.

Damn...

I saw that on the 10:00 news in Austin. The sweet tarts have been making some serious rounds here for the past 3 months!

The mom is a complete dumbass however!

The kids are starting younger and younger these days. The police just need to realise the 3-year-olds have Acid hook ups these days. =D

But on a serious note. I really do feel for this child. The developing brain should not be subjected to Psychedelic substances IMO. I just hope the long term effects are not too serious.

can that amount of LSD kill a child? what about permanent damage? This is fucked up, i hope he's ok :\

I wonder what the damage really is on that. I bet he grows up to be a science professor.

No 9 hits wont kill anyone, including a child. But I agree [to a point] with Splatt on this... I don't think that kid will ever be "normal," for lack of a better word. I know a guy who's parents were LSD chemists in Hawaii back in the 60s and 70s, and they dosed him when he was 8 years old, telling him it would help him to see clearly, and the guy is not right. I don't know that THAT is the reason for him being not right, but it's what he claims made him not right.

Yeah the baby is definetly going to be very off, or he may not even come out of it and be completely retarded. That is an overdose of LSD, there HAS to be damage, or maybe not? We shall see.

Why must there!? LSD has very little physical impact on the body, so I doubt there would be any kind of damage to the brain.

The other question is psychological damage. The common suggestion is that acid won't permanently 'mess up your head' if you do not have any physcological problems to begin with. I wonder if the same holds true for children that young (although 9 hits is a decent dose, even for an adult). I also wonder if the child would actually remember the experience, being so young.

They regualrly give large (relatively speaking) doses of Ketamine to children with no lasting effects, so acid may be no different in that respect...

He's 3. He'll be fine. He won't even remember any of what happened after a few days.
