Most stimulating and most sedating opioids

I'm sure there are synthetic opioids that are sedating (methadone? fentanyl? I haven't tried them)...I doubt that the fact that one is naturally occurring while the others are derived synthetics has anything to do with it.

Neutral (i.e. not particularly stimulating or sedating): Hydrocodone, Fentanyl, Codeine, Meperidine

Hydrocodone and hydromorphone are definately more stimulating than oxycodone (and oxymorphone) IME. Codeine is among the most sedating along with morphine and heroin. IME of course.

It seems as though we have differing opiate/opioid experiences, but that's to be expected.

I personally found hydromorphone to be exceptionally sedating. Every time I've taken it, I've ended up nodding pretty hardcore, more so than any other narcotic I've ingested. By contast, oxycodone was quite stimulating and very motivating. In fact, I personally find that oxycodone can sometimes be more motivating than Dexedrine.

Codeine never really sedated me much at all. That might have to do with the fact that I'm allergic to it and end up getting a histamine reaction whenever I take it.

To repeat, I found hydrocodone to be very neutral. It didn't motivate me, but at the same time, it didn't cause me to nod. Granted, the first time I took it, I noticed that it had a very relaxing quality.

I think that any opioid, even tramadol, can make you nod pretty hardcore if you take enough. I bet if you took equivalent doses of each of those, you would find them to be like I said.
